If you are like me and need to buy Quake 3 again because you once broke your disc in half in a violent rage and now want to reinstall it, you will be glad to know that all id Software games are 50% off this weekend on Steam.
Valve’s Doug Lombardi says:
“This includes the id Super Pack for only $34.99 (over $200 worth of games). Or take 50% off individual titles such as Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein, Commander Keen, Heretic, and Hexen. Offer ends Monday, September 8.”
And there you have it.

[Edit: This movie has been removed from GameTrailers, most likely thanks to THQ. Good thing I saved the .flv…]
This video of an early build of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine came out of Games Convention Leipzig, and left field. Apparently the game is still in the pitch phase to THQ, and it’s apparent that the game is still a work in progress.
I can’t say I agree with the philosophy that Space Marines are good only for up close combat, as they have plenty of ranged weapons and tend to be WH40K’s most all-around race (in videogames, I can’t comment on the tabletop). The Marine’s bolter pistol seems useless, and those “cinemaction” moments would get old really quick unless there were thousands of them.Despite these caveats, the concept of a third person action game set in the WH40K universe is appealing–think Gears of War without the over-the-top humor and angry fratboy characters, with an established story to draw upon. Between this and a projected Warhammer 40K MMO, I could die a happy man.
Some new StarCraft II screenshots hit today, giving you another glimpse of the Zerg and Protoss going at it like their lives depend on it. Oddly enough, their lives do depend on it, and yours will too once this game hits store shelves.
Unfortunately, Activision-Blizzard has confirmed that SC2 will not hit in 2008, but most likely 2009. If it stretches to 2010, however, the terrorists will have truly won.

You’ll need an iTunes account to download it, but the Diablo III Overture is now free on the iTunes store, helping all of us through this difficult period in our lives where we don’t have Diablo III.
The track is an orchestral…something. Overture is definitely the best term, but it doesn’t inspire visions of the dark lord of terror taking control of the world (and my right index finger) again, which is pretty sadface.
Needless to say, you will need iTunes to download this song. Get it at apple.com/itunes, then hit this link: Diablo III Overture.

The new iteration of Prince of Persia is breaking a lot a traditions. First off, the new Prince starts a completely new story line. Secondly, there is a unique cel-shaded art style. These would mean nothing if it wasn’t for a completely new gameplay style. Following the theme of breaking tradition, Prince of Persia has a unique was of distributing it’s Limited Edition.
In order to get your hands of the Limited Edition of Prince of Persia, all you have to do it pre-order it. By forgoing the classic method of charging an additional $10, Ubisoft hopes that gamers will put down some cash in advance. The Limited Edition includes: A Making of movie, A digital art book, the soundtrack, a digital mini-strategy guide and limited edition box art.
I typically wouldn’t be willing to shell out cash for a limited edition like this, but because it doesn’t cost anything, why not?

Today is a red letter day for gaming. For the first time in gaming history (Well, gaming history that I can recall. Give me a break; I’m writing this while I’m at work.) a title’s release date has been pushed forward. EA announced today that their upcoming survival horror game Dead Spacewill be arriving in the states on Oct 21, a full 10 days before its original Halloween release date. European consoles will get the game on Oct 24. Unfortunately, European PC gamers are getting the short end of the stick with the original Halloween release date.
While Halloween is a more fitting time for a spooky survival-horror game, I’ll gladly take a game ahead of time.

EA and Pandemic studios must really want to the word about Mercenaries 2: World in Flames out there. They have been promoting the hell out of it; with today taking the mother load. Starting at 6:00 AM PST, EA will take over the Mobil at 8489 Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. What can you expect from the EA take-over? First off all the attendants will be dressed up as mercenaries. There will be various promotional material all around the gas station. Lastly, they will be giving away free gas. That is right folks, FREE GAS.
I can’t even imagine how much this is going to cost EA. Living in Ohio, I’m used to paying around $3.70 for a gallon. In LA I have a feeling its a whole lot more. It is going to be interesting to see if this promotion affects Mercenaries 2 sales. I really do hope that EA makes a profit off of Mercenaries 2 so that they can have more promotions like this in the future.
Mercenaries 2: World in Flameshits stores this Sunday, Aug 31. It is coming out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PC.
