Creolophus bows out of Warcraft 3 with Blizzcon 2007 title

Olav “Creolophus” Undheim winning Blizzcon 2007 was painful news for Warcraft 3 fans. It was not in the winner’s name that people found disappointment but in the fact that the new champion will never be seen playing like that again.

The Four Kings Night Elf player had made up his mind some time ago that he would stop playing Warcraft 3 professionally. At the time, he was considered good, but not up there with the very best.

Today, he may well be the best.

After the Warcraft 3 Champions League finals, when it was publicly re-announced that the Norwegian would focus on college with the new semester, Creolophus did things that now make people wish he would not quit.

A month ago, Creolophus attended the Electronic Sports World Cup and beat every single opponent until the grand final, where he lost to fellow NE player Lee “SoJu” Seong Deok.

At Blizzcon, Creolophus went through the tournament in great fashion, beating Franklin “Nilknarf” Pearsall, the legendary Jang “Spirit Moon” JaeHo in the semi final, and the BattleNet Season IV champion Kim ‘ReMinD’ Sung in the upper bracket final. In the grand final, he met ReMinD again and defeated him 2-1.

Creo was the best player at the event but remained very modest about it, saying that he was lucky to have mostly met Night Elf players on his way to the championship. For his efforts, he was awarded $10,000.

Most likely, that check at Blizzcon was the last one he picked up in professional gaming. In a few weeks, Creolophus will focus on college and if at all, he will attend gaming events without preparation.

Asked about retirement, the new champion only smiled and said that at least it is a good moment to step back. But is he the only one that does not think it is woefully too early?
