Second Life lawsuit filed over boners
What do you do when someone steals the source code to your anatomically correct Second Life genitalia and thrusting animations? This is America, son. You sue them to hell!
Kevin Alderman, owner of Eros LLC — which makes dicks for Second Life players — recently found that someone ganked the code for his phallic creations. When Kevin tracked down the thief, known only as Volkov Catteneo, the jock-jacker dared Kevin to sue him.
So Alderman did. He went to civil court in Tampa, Fla. to subpoena Volkov’s information. Linden Labs, creators of Second Life, already turned over what they have. So did PayPal.
All dicking around aside, legal experts believe that the case has merit. Second Life gives players the ability to create, and sell, products within the game. Which means that anything created within the game is subject to copyright. It’s really just a matter of finding Volkov and sticking it to him.
Apparently this is the first legal swordfight between avatars in the game. It’s worth noting that Linden Labs has been sued by players numerous times before over other issues, though.
In the end, it may come down to finding Volkov’s IP address and corroborating that with his ISP. If he lives in the U.S, he’s going to get the shaft.
