The Championship Gaming Series has added a Seoul-based franchise in Asia. The announcement was made at the International E-Sports Symposium.
The new, unnamed franchise is the first officially announced team in the Asian region. Its Counter-Strike Source team is none other than the good old eSTRO lineup. The same eSTRO that finished last in the WEG e-Stars Counter-Strike 1.6 event and first at the CS:Source CGS qualifier last weekend.
The Seoul team is comprised of:
PGR3: Soo-Kyung Kang and Sung-Yoon Kang
DoA4: Yong-Hyun Baik
Counter-Strike: Source: eSTRO
A female DoA4 player will be added to the franchise in the near future.
More teams for the CGS should be announced soon. It is known that another franchise will be established in Dubai and rumors from China suggest that the CGS will pen a deal with wNv to form a team in there. Asia will have a total of four franchises.
More teams may be known in less than two weeks — the European and U.K. drafts and qualifiers are set to take place on August 21-26. The choice of dates for the qualifier may have been a little more fortunate for FIFA 07 and Counter-Strike players, since it coincides with Games Convention and its professional gaming tournaments.
U.K. and Europe will have two franchises each. Originally, Europe was supposed to have three franchises but last Friday, Tonya “CGSAdmin” Welch said that it was a misprint on the page all along.
The misprint has been on this page for months and goes as follows: For the 2007 season North America will have 6 franchises, Latin America will have 2 franchises, Europe will have 3 franchises, the United Kingdom will have 2 franchises and Asia will have 4 franchises.
