GRAW engine creator says PS3’s not hard to code for, just new

The co-creator of the engine behind Tom Clancy’s: Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter says the PlayStation 3 isn’t hard to code for, but game developers just have to get up to speed.

“It’s not harder to develop on the PS3 than it is on the 360, it’s just a different console. Developers might say it’s harder because it just takes time to understand the technology; we’re still early in the lifecycle,” said Yann Le Tensorer.

This all comes after USA Today slammed the PS3 version of Madden ‘08, saying it didn’t measure up to the Xbox 360 version.

A number of people have gone on the record about PlayStation 3 difficulties, including John Carmack. At the QuakeCon 2007 keynote, Carmack expressed frustration with the PS3’s shared system and video memory. Although Carmack will certainly find a solution to the problem, his and other developer’s experiences speak to the differences between the PS3 and 360. Despite being “next-gen,’ they’re not the same consoles, and one may excel in an area where the other does not.
