Epic Games has acquired a majority stake in People Can Fly, the developer behind Painkiller. The two companies first began collaborating on the PC version of Gears of War.
Besides GoW PC, the Epic and PCF are working on an undisclosed IP, which will be previewed to publishers at the Lepzig Games Convention.
After seeing initial prototypes of PCF’s work on UE3, Mark Rein said: “… we were totally blown away. The quality of their work was extremely high, and knew we had to find a way to work more closely with them in the future.” That’s how PCF landed the GoW PC project.
For PCF, the news is definitely a boon. It’s tough to make it as an independent developer, and pairing up with a heavy hitter like Epic gives them a lot of clout as far as getting future games published.
