Last weekend had a bountiful amount of esports action with ESL’s European Nations Cup and NGL One finals at Games Convention in Leipzig and the World Series of Video Games in Toronto. Well over $150,000 was given out in cash prizes.
NGL ONE
NGL One has had two LAN finals for their Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft 3 leagues with four teams in a double elimination bracket in each of those. For CS 1.6, the Swedish team Fnatic won in a competition with Team NoA, Mousesports and SK Gaming.
Fnatic went through the bracket beating SK in the semi final (2-0) and Mousesports in the UB final (2-1). SK Gaming came back to the grand final from the lower bracket after beating NoA and Mouz, 2-1 each. Fnatic was the best lineup of the tournament and solidified their position as one of the most consistent teams this year, next to Made in Brazil and PGS Gaming.
NGL One Counter-Strike:
1. Fnatic - $20,000
2. SK Gaming - $10,000
3. mousesports - $5,000
4. Team NoA
In the Warcraft 3 finals the teams that attended were Meet Your Makers, Four Kings, Mousesports and SK Gaming. MYM went home the winners, with three players able to pull through at any moment. The key man on the roster was Noh “Lucifer” JaeWook who won four matches in the grand final against Mousesports. In earlier stages Eom “FoCuS” Hyosub almost single-handedly won matches for MYM.
The man for Mousesports was Wei Liang “Fly100″ Lu who carried his team to the grand final. In the lower bracket final, he turned the tides in favor of Mouz over Four Kings by beating Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen, Yoan “ToD” Merlo and Olav “Creolophus” Undheim - the three best European players right now.
NGL One Warcraft 3:
1. Meet Your Makers - $10,000
2. Mousesports - $4,000
3. Four Kings - $2,000
4. SK Gaming
EUROPEAN NATIONS CUP
The ENC also featured Counter-Strike 1.6 and Warcraft, with an additional touch of FIFA 07. The best team in CS was Poland, led by three PGS Gaming members (including eSports Player of the Year Filip “NEO” Kubski). Germany, in the lineup that will play in the World Cyber Games finals in Seattle, only got second place. Third place went to Denmark, while Norway ended in a disappointing fourth place.
ENC Counter-Strike 1.6:
1. Poland - 15,000 Euro
2. Germany - 7,500 Euro
3. Denmark - 5,000 Euro
4. Norway - 2,500 Euro
Warcraft 3 had a somewhat surprising winner in Finland. The playing field was relatively even, though, and it would be difficult to say that on any given day the same team would win again. Sweden took second place, ahead of Germany and Bulgaria.
ENC Warcraft 3:
1. Finland - 6,000 Euro
2. Sweden - 3,500 Euro
3. Germany - 2,000 Euro
4. Bulgaria - 1,000 Euro
The FIFA 07 ENC was not really that surprising. Germany, the usual suspects, won it ahead of Ukraine. Here are the final standings:
1. Germany 6,000 Euro
2. Ukraine 3,500 Euro
3. Hungary 2,000 Euro
4. Spain 1,000 Euro
5. Russia 1,000 Euro

I guess av3ks win was just a fluke vs toxjc a much stabler player.
We will see. I’m positively surprised by DaHang. The guy’s doing really well.
You should comment on the quality of play in Quake these days Carmac. After watching the streams this weekend, it’s quite depressing how bad the quality and competition have dropped off since Quake3.
You should also take a look at the controversy from the WSVG WoW tournament that took place. A team was forced to replay a match against a team they had already defeated the day before on a very, very petty complaint.
I was at Fan Expo in Toronto all 3 days. Dahang was sure a surprise, and Avek honestly played horribly, as did Cooller in my opinion.
I wish I could comment on anything, but I’ve been running around like crazy at Games Convention and have no idea what was going on =)
