Gran Turismo 5 Prologue gets a release date … sort of

Sony has officially announced that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be available via download for the PlayStation 3 in late 2007. The game will also be available in stores for those of you allergic to digital distribution. The game will feature online racing for the first time in the series’ very successful run and also feature more than “40 cars including vehicles from manufacturers such as Lotus, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Ferrari, and real-life tracks including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka.”

Running at 1080p, the game will also be smooth as silk at 60 fps. Details on the new online racing mode include global online rankings, My Garage homepages where players can chat and show off their cars, and a Gran Turismo TV channel.
