‘Star Wars Galaxies’ in-game event nets $10K for low-income families

Sony Online Entertainment Austin teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to raise $10,000 in a Star Wars Galaxies in-game event. The check was presented at the Austin Game Developers Conference last week.Players in SWG can build their own houses and buildings in-game, and the world was becoming glutted with abandoned structures. The Imperial Government condemned the houses, and players were permitted to destroy the buildings while TIE fighters bombarded the structures from above.

Characters earned points for successful demolitions, and SOE promised to match the number of houses destroyed with a donation to Habitat for Humanity.

Star Wars Galaxies is an MMORPG based in the Star Wars universe, and launched in 2003.

Habitat for Humanity is an international Christian charitable organization that creates affordable new homes for low-income families. Homes are created with volunteer labor and community funding, then sold with zero-interest mortgage loans.

  1. i LOVE this game! very cool of SOE to give back to the community, but when did $10,000 help build a house? Maybe they are helping build a computer chamber? hehe

  2. Hell, a computer chamber is all I need :)
