During his 2007 Tokyo Game Show keynote, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Kaz Hirai confirmed the plan for the company to once again make the PlayStation rumble — the PlayStation 3 would in fact get a new controller called DualShock 3. The Sixaxis functionality will remain the same, as will the design from the outside. The revamped controller will debut in November in Japan and in Spring 2008 in North America and Europe — the company has not released pricing details. Nine titles at TGS will include the new PS3 rumble functionality. Some of those will be: Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Echochrome.

Aside from the new controller being announced, Hirai also dropped some bad news that the PS3 and PlayStation Network application Home would be delayed into next year. Hirai had this to say:
“We want this to be a worldwide service,” he said. “…We want to make sure that we have a range of services which can be satisfactory to our users throughout the world… so we decided to delay the service’s launch date… Please be patient in this regard.”
Other talk during Hirai’s keynote included a smattering of business matters. Hirai said that to further strengthen Sony’s first-party development, the company acquired MotorStorm developer Evolution Studios and Pursuit Force developer BigBig. Hirai also noted that the PSN has reached a mark of 2.7 million users globally.
