This Friday brings us a new 1on1 interview, this time with the father of the Warcraft 3 Champions League, Sebastian “Baschi” Weishaar. Wire’s Michal “Carmac” Blicharz talks with the German about Warcraft 3, Blizzard and StarCraft 2 and the RTS genre in esports.

Wow. This is one of the first times I’ve seen someone involved in WC3 say it’s hard to follow for those who don’t play it, I just wish all of the wc3 players and fan boys would finally admit this.. ;(

The thing is, though, that it’s only gamers that follow esports. So in the reality we live in it’s irrelevant that WC3 is not understandable for outsiders.

Irrelevant in the context of it limiting its appeal to those involved in eSports as well? I mean I’m a born and bread FPS player and I understand the WC3 community and scene, yet I’ve never once played the game or watched a match for more than 5 minutes because it’s near impossible to follow without having played it.

I haven’t played it, except for the single player, and I can follow it ok. Of course I don’t grasp every single aspect of it, but I enjoy it.
It’s not like CS is very enjoyable to watch for those that do not play it.
