IEST Global Finals heat up

The International Electronic Sports Tournament’s 2007 Global Finals are set to begin today, Oct. 17, and we’ll see some heated Warcraft III and StarCraft action over the course of the tournament.

Check the groups to see the potential matchups:

Warcraft III

Group A

WE.Sky
mouz.SaSe
4K^Zeus

Group B

wNv.Sai
SK.SoJu
4K^Grubby

Group C

WE.Infi
MYM]Moon
SK.HoT

Group D

4K^ToD
BeT.FoV
fnatic.XyLigan

Sky is undoubtedly the favorite in his group, while Grubby faces off against two Night Elf players. We should expect Moon to take his group as well, but he faces a mirror match against the highly skilled HoT. In Group D, the lone Undead, FoV, gets ganged up on by two Human players.

Only the top two advance from each group in this best of three round robin format.

StarCraft

Many fans have complained about the IEST StarCraft groups due to the racial balance. There are only three Koreans overall in the tournament as well.

Group A

PJ (Protoss)
Testie (Random)
Fenix (Terran)

Group B

Fengzi (Zerg)
Calm (Zerg)
Blackman (Zerg)

Group C

LeiLei (Terran)
Hwasin (Terran)
Advokate (Terran)

Group D

Phoenix66 (Terran)
TBD (Korean player)
White-Ra (Protoss)

As you can see, Group B is stacked with Zergs while C is chock-full of Terrans. That’s a lot of mirror matches, and some fans aren’t exactly thrilled about it.
