AGC Halo 2 champ speaks
Now that the Army Gaming Championships season is coming to a close, I sat down with Halo 2 champion Ghost Attack to discuss his AGC season and thoughts on Halo 3. Ghost Attack, also known as Evan Tylenda, is the leader of Over Time, one of the very best teams in this AGC season.
Evan Tylenda: Let me start by saying thank you to AGC for having this tournament and to my team for a job well done.
GGL Wire: First, congrats on winning the AGC Bracket Qualifier and Elite Forces Final Bracket, and placing second in the Ladder Qualifier. You guys have compiled a pretty impressive record over the course of the season — how’d you do it?
Tylenda: Thank you very much. I have been playing Halo 2 ever since it came out and have played it competitively for over two years, so I think that we had a lot more experience than most of the other teams.
GGL Wire: It looks like you had a personnel swap after the second place ladder finish against OmgLikeWhoa. Did you sub out Fear Bryan for Firefox182 during the Bracket Tournament?
Tylenda: Well sorta, It was more of a conflict of schedules and way of contacting them that made us change the roster.
GGL Wire: And if so, what did Firefox add to the roster that Fear Bryan didn’t give you guys?
Tylenda: FireFox is my best friend (in real life) and it was easier to play matches because we basically have the same schedule and I could notify him ahead of time.
GGL Wire: Over Time has amassed $5,100 in prize money. What do you plan to do with the winnings?
Tylenda: I hope to buy some little things I’ve wanted and maybe payback my parents some money that they have given me; I will most likely save the rest.
GGL Wire: Will your team return to action in Halo 3?
Tylenda: We all play Halo 3 but will most likely not stay together as a team for Halo 3.
GGL Wire: I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that you’ve played Halo 3. How do you feel about the game?
Tylenda: Ha, yeah Halo 3 takes up most of my time. As for the gameplay I think it has a good balance between what was good in Halo 1 and Halo 2. Some power weapons are tuned down which gives a more balanced advantage over some of the starting/easy to find weapons (each weapon has its advantages and disadvantages and can usually be countered by a different weapon). The rest of the game is AMAZING. Alot of cool new features like the Theater and Forge offer a lot of fun and customization.
GGL Wire: What are the main differences, in terms of multiplayer and balance in Halo 3 compared to Halo 2?
Tylenda: Halo 3 has a lot more weapon balance then Halo 2 for ex. The AR in Halo 3 adds much more power than the starting SMG in Halo 2 for matchmaking gametypes. Also the sword and sniper are tuned down while the shotgun is much more reliable. Shots don’t miss because of lag like in Halo 2; you can also watch and save your games in the Theater which is an awsome feature.
GGL Wire: Are the maps better or worse in Halo 3 (compared to Halo 2)?
Tylenda: For now im going to say that the maps in Halo 2 are better mostly because there are more balanced small maps than there are in Halo 3. The new Lockout “Guardian” and a map called “The Pit” are pretty good, but until Bungie comes out with more smaller, symmetrical maps, Halo 2 wins.
GGL Wire: Who was your toughest matchup, and why?
Tylenda: Our toughest match up was defintly OmgLikeWhoa. Even though we only lost one game to them, they were by far the closest in skill and experience level than the other teams.
GGL Wire: Who was your star player in the AGC, and why?
Tylenda: For star player I would probly have to say myself, mostly because of the kill to death spread I would get each game especially against OmgLikeWhoa. Gilkey was maybe … MAYBE the most clutch player on the team. We all played well it wasnt really just one or two players.
GGL Wire: Would you play in a potential AGC Season 2?
Tylenda: Most definitely.
GGL Wire: Thank you for the interview.
