The Insomnia 32 LAN in Newbury, England is very likely to have a major international Quake 4 competition. Although nothing was officially announced, the event on November 9-12 may have a prize pot of $20,000 and a very impressive list of attendees. All the details are still being negotiated with Intel, the sponsor of the event.
The previous I-series LAN had a very successful Quake 4 tournament. It was the first in the 2007 season. After the cancellation of the World Series of Video Games, it looks like i32 will be the last. According to ESReality, the competition’s organizer is Gareth “GaRpY” Marshall, one of the best duelers in the U.K. He has convinced Intel to sponsor the prize purse for the tourney.
The winner will pick up a check for $5,500 and players that finish up to 12th place will receive cash. The player with the overall greatest number of frags in the competition will receive a gaming PC from Intel. The prize distribution for the event is expected to be the following:
1st - $5500
2nd - $3500
3rd - $2500
4th - $2000
5th - $1500
6th - $1250
7th - $1000
8th - $750
9th - $500
10th - $500
11th - $500
12th - $500
Although nothing is still official, the world’s best players are already preparing for the competition. The one big absentee is likely going to be Anton “Cooller” Singov who is having trouble getting a visa as usual.
