Twice as many gamers wasting money on the PS3
North American sales of the PlayStation 3 console line doubled in the weeks following a $100 price drop, according to Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer.
The system sold 100,000 units in the first week of November. The average weekly sale the previous month was 30,000.
Stringer:
It’s the breakthrough we’ve been anticipating. We’ve been holding our breath. Obviously, we’ve taken so much heat over the year on PS3, Finally, the turning point has been passed.
He added:
It’s a little fortuitous that the Wii is running out of hardware.
On October 18 Sony cut the price on the 80 GB PlayStation 3 to $499; a 40 GB model was released on November 2 for $399, bundled with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray.
