DreamHack WoW 3v3: Pandemic beaten!

Unexpectedly, but according to the initial plan, World of Warcraft is having its final tournament in 2007 at DreamHack. The top eight teams from the World Series of Video Games rankings were invited to Sweden by Blizzard and Intel to close the season in a $75,000 tournament ran by ESL.

The competition is Blizzard’s initiative. A lot of times, this company has proven that the people in it care about the community. After the cancellation of the WSVG, the creators of WoW have decided that the players deserve to have the season finished. In a way, this event is the continuation of the WSVG, although the ESL people dislike this way of seeing things. A perpetuation or not, the winners here at DreamHack will be the last World of Warcraft champions in 2007.

The main favorites are Pandemic, the winners of every 3v3 Arena competition there was so far, but the new patch and the fact that teams were not allowed to switch players in the lineup anymore may make it a little bit more random. Teams like Fnatic Insurrection and two MoB teams may well do damage here as well.

First Round

The American teams started the event in good form, although Pandemic actually lost a round to Meet Your Makers to win 3-1. MoB TurtlePower eased their way past Team EG with 3-0, and TurtleForce edged past Fnatic.Oldskool 3-2. Fnatic.Insurrection beat SK Gaming after a long an arduous game that ended with a 3-0 for the U.S. team.

The upper bracket semi finals will be played between Pandemic vs. MoB TurtlePower, and MoB TurtleForce vs. Fnatic.Insurrection.

Lower bracket 1st round:

Meet Your Makers exit the tournament with two rounds under their belt and a baggage of six rounds and two matches lost. They were sent home by Team EG in the lower bracket with a 3:1 score.

Fnatic.Oldskool have lost to SK Gaming 3:0 and are out of the tournament. EG and SK are waiting to play the losers of the upper bracket semi finals in the next lower bracket round.

Upper bracket semi finals:

Pandemic and MoB TurtlePower have squared it off, and it looked like Pandemic would take the match easily after going 2:0 up in rounds. After that TurtlePower finally manage to execute their strategies perfectly and took three consecutive rounds to win the entire match 3:2. This is the first ever defeat suffered by Pandemic in WoW Arena 3v3. 

Fnatic.Insurrection will play MoB TurtleForce in the other upper bracket semi final.
