DreamHack 2007: WoW final postponed for Saturday

The fans did not find out whether it is Pandemic or MoB.TurtleForce that is the best WoW 3v3 team in the world. The $45,000 check for first place will have to gather dust until tomorrow, as the final of ESL’s WoW tournament at DreamHack was rescheduled for 14:00 CET Saturday.

If there was one tournament where the big favorites were to be shocked, it was this one. It was organized in to salvage the 2007 WoW Arena season, so abruptly ended by the shutdown of the World Series of Video Games. Blizzard and ESL decided to pick up the pieces and hold a $75,000 event to give the teams a chance to cross their virtual swords one last time.

And which better moment than this one would it be for Pandemic to face defeat for the first time. MoB TurtlePower’s semi final victory over the team that hadn’t lost a match in World of Warcraft 3v3 added the much needed spice to the competition. The event was no longer a foregone conclusion and Pandemic lost its unholy aura.

Hurt and bleeding, Pandemic managed to squeeze past Fnatic.Insurrection in a rock-paper-scissors-style match, with a 3-2 score. In the lower bracket, they took revenge on MoB TurtlePower and did not give them a single round this time. Power got a third place - disappointing if you consider that it was this team that stopped Pandemic for the first time in history.

What an anticlimax it was for the fans to find out that the long-awaited final would not take place on Friday night. Fans were gathering to watch the last showdown for around two hours and needed to wait because of delays in the schedule. The players were ready, too.

But if anything, this plot twist only adds to the drama.
