Gandalf goes to Korea

LoTRO:SoAMassachusetts-based publisher Turbine announced today a deal to bring The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar to Korea. The agreement with SoKo web portal NHN will bring the award-winning Tolkien-based MMORPG to the heavily-impacted Korean MMO market.

Kim Chang-Keun, Director of the publishing division of NHN:

The Lord of the Rings Online will redefine the MMORPG genre in Korea, with amazing graphics and high-quality game content, along with a game system that Korean gamers are familiar with. We expect the title will be a strong contender in the world-class Korean online game market, giving it a global competitive edge.

LOTRO won the 2007 PC Game of the Year award at the Golden Joysticks. Turbine also produces the MMOs Asheron’s Call and Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach.

There is no word yet on whether the Korean version of LOTRO will feature superdeformed isometric characters, elaborate costumes and microtransactions.
