Brian “destrukt” Flander’s Chicago Chimera has won the Championship Gaming Series World Championship. The team beat their North American Championship final opponents, Carolina Core.
Both then and now, Chimera were the favorites of the match, but the encounter for the regional crown came down to a single point in favor of the Chicago team. This time around, it was a completely different story. Those Core’s players that could realistically deliver points in the match collapsed under pressure.
The game started off with Mystik playing Kasumi Chan in DOA4. The first round between the girls was really close. Mystik lost this one and completely lost the hold of the game. She managed to pick herself up to win a round at 4-0 down, but it was just too late.
After that it was Peekay against Anomaly in FIFA, where Peekay, one of the worst players in the CGS, did not pull through and lost 2-1. The nail to the coffin was the battle of the World Cyber Games champions for DOA4 between Core’s Offbeat Ninja (2006 champion) and Chimera’s BlackMamba (this year’s champion). Offbeat clearly choked in the game and Mamba made it look easy with a 4-1 score.
The Counter-Strike game was already meaningless, as four points won back by Core (11:7) was much less than enough with the prospect of a PGR3 race with the undefeated JasonX and ch0mpr duo. These two scored the maximum 8:1 on Phantom and Rex and sealed the deal for Chicago.
The winning team was awarded $500,000, half of the entire prize pot for the finals. The final standings of the event are as follows:
