In Japan, there are more Nintendo DS handhelds than PlayStation 2 consoles


Nintendo DSFirst we learned there is one Nintendo DS handheld for every 7 people in Japan. Now the DS has outsold the PlayStation 2 - in all time sales.

Since its release in Japan on March 4, 2000, the PS2 has sold 20,901,468 units. As of this week, the Nintendo DS sold 20,954,157 units.

The DS has been on Japanese shelves since December 2, 2004.

The figures come from Japanese media firm Media Create.
