The 2007/2008 winter must be the season of giving. First EA Games hooks us up with a free game due to the Rock Band guitar issue. Then Microsoft promises us a free XBLA game due to the Live downtime. Now NVIDIA has teamed up with Valve software to give us an extended Portal demo.
Portal: First Slice is a demo which consists of the first third of the full Portal. How do you get it? Well if you are rocking a NVIDIA graphics card, hop on to Steam and allow it to run some auto detection software. Then the extended demo should be yours.
Why is Valve doing this? according to Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve:
More Steam gamers, including myself, play on NVIDIA hardware than any other GPU. That’s a testament to the company’s long history of innovation and quality. By working together with NVIDIA to expand our development, distribution, and marketing efforts, we’re increasing our ability to serve the millions of NVIDIA customers logging onto Steam and help us prepare for our next generation of content.
If you haven’t tried Portal, I highly suggest you pick it up along with the rest of the Orange Box.
