Well, not really. Another studio has been gobbled up by the publisher THQ. This time it’s Big Huge Games, developer of Rise of Nations. The good news is that no job losses are predicted.
Jack Sorenson, THQ’s executive VP of worldwide studios said: “This is a big win for THQ as we expand our development capabilities and our IP.” Sorenson also said that the acquisition of Big Huge would help, “fill in gaps we perceive in our portfolio.”
I was a huge fan of Rise of Nations and it seems like this merger is good for both parties, as THQ is a major driving force in creating new RTS titles and strategy has been Big Huge Games’ bread and butter so far. As a gamer, and not just a writer, I hope that Big Huge Games will keep producing quality PC games, or even console games, in the future.
