A new Call of Duty 4 patch, currently available only for Xbox 360 gamers, makes some pretty significant changes.
First off, the patch increases accuracy for snipers, the Kill Cam now shows deaths from claymores, airstrikes and grenades, there are new spawn points on each map, a new quick mute feature and a bunch of under the hood tweaks.
All these changes are fine, but the real issue is, will this patch stop me from sucking at console shooters?

It was announced today that the Greatful Dead will be jamming their way into Rock Band next week in the form of DLC. That’s right, Deadheads, six songs will be available Tuesday via Xbox LIVE Marketplace and Thursday via the PlayStation Network.
For 800 Microsoft points ($9.99) you can get all six songs. The tack list goes:
- China Cat Sunflower
- Casey Jones
- Sugar Magnolia
- Truckin’
- Franklin’s Tower
- I Need A Miracle
As usual, individual tracks will cost you 160 Microsoft points ($2.00).
The real question is, ‘Why is Harmonix promoting their $170 game to a bunch of broke hippies?’

There is some new Guitar Hero III DLC available today, courtesy of the Southern California pseudo-ska pop all-stars No Doubt. The three songs are off the Tragic Kingdom album and will cost you 500 Microsoft points ($6.25). The tracks are: “Don’t Speak”, “Excuse Me Mr” and “Sunday Morning.” To top it all off, all of these songs are the master tracks.
Personally these songs don’t do it for me. My wallet is far too tight to justify spending money on Guitar Hero III DLC, especially when I have Rock Band to entertain my friends and I.

In an interview with Chief magazine, Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling was grilled about the state of CoD4 as related to e-Sports. The results were less than pleasing for e-Sports fans, as is often the case.
Bowling said:
CODTV is something we’ve constantly been talking about internally throughout development and even now and something I still think is a possibility for a future PC update. We’ve met with the creator of the original CODTV and discussed what may be needed or what we can do, so it’s definitely a possibility, right now we’ve been focused on patches and mod tools updates, but that is something that’s being looked at.
Doesn’t sound too promising to me. However, at least it’s on their radar; I can’t say that id cared much at all about GTV despite its obvious utility. Of the few developers of “e-Sports titles,” only Valve has stepped up with SourceTV so far.

Resident Evil Zero will be ported onto the Wii. Unfortunately, no other information was revealed by Capcom, especially in regards to controls. It would be a shame if the game didn’t get waggle-style controls.
I am really excited about this. I have always been a huge fan of Resident Evil, but never had a Gamecube. Thanks to this port, I don’t have to spend cash on a Gamecube controller and memory card for my Wii. Hopefully the rest of the Resident Evil remakes will get ported as well.

The GSI comes to a close soon, with only two players remaining. Their paths to this match were long and hard-fought against other invitees. Proxy builds, cheese plays, and guerilla drops all played their role in bringing us to this final moment.
Catch up on the VoDs, player bios, and schedule at the GSI website!
Flash’s path:
Flash > Savior, AnyTime, Mind in group play
Jaedong, AnyTime in elimination stage
Flash is on fire now, playing with unparalleled poise. He rose out of his group 3-0, then pushed out two favorites for event. His play against AnyTime in the semi-finals match on Blue Storm was incredible in both games. He managed to spot proxy gateways and adapted to AnyTime’s strategies each game. Though he took a loss on Katrina, a quick game on Baekmagoji tallied one more point in his favor. At a critical juncture in the match, Flash subtly moved a barracks and landed it to trap AnyTime’s units, changing their pathing into Flash’s favor. Unable to quickly finish the game on the second Blue Storm game, AnyTime bowed out after an all-in attack. Read more »

GGPO, the online fighting game client, has just added Street Fighter Alpha 3 and King of Fighters ‘98 to its repertoire.
This brings the total number of games to six (Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara, SFA2, Marvel vs. Capcom, and DarkStalkers are already enabled).
GGPO stands for “Good Game, Peace Out” and allows for lag-free, or close to lag-free, online play using tricky netcode and prediction. With over 1.1 million matches played, it plays host to a growing community of fighting game fans.
Additionally, GGPO allows players to record their matches in extremely small replay files, which can then be replayed at will. In this way, you can follow a tournament from beginning to end with replays.
Unfortunately, due to its reliance on emulation, GGPO resides in an area of…dubious legality. Let’s just put it that way. It’s a shame that this type of technology hasn’t already been bought and put to use by an enterprising company, because it could easily be legitimized.
After yesterday’s semi-final games, only two players remain in the StarCraft GOMTV Star Invitational.
If you recall, Flash took on AnyTime and Iris was to battle Stork on the standard maps of Blue Storm, Katrina and BaekmaGoji in a best of five format.
