Skate flips Tony Hawk’s crown off
Last year was pretty good for EA. They blew away PC shooter fans with Crysis, helped start Rock Bands across the world and reinvented the skateboard genre with Skate.
Yesterday EA Games reported that Skate has ended the reign of the Tony Hawk franchise as top selling skateboarding game. According to EA, “on current generation systems, Skate outsold Tony Hawk [Proving Ground] nearly 2 to 1.”

This is great news for gamers. Now that there is some competition in the skateboarding genre, Neversoft will have to really step up and deliver for the next cycle of skateboarding games.
Personally I love Skate and I play it pretty much everyday. As a skateboarder, I really enjoy the realistic feel of Skate and I am amazed at how the developers captured the feeling of skate session. To me, the Tony Hawk games feel way too exaggerated and easy, both things real skateboarding isn’t.
