Idiots attempt to trademark ‘pwnage’
The ridiculousness started early this week, with news that Finland-based Futuremark Games Studio has attempted to trademark the word “pwnage.”
The company wants the term protected in relation to:
… computer game software; computer game programs; computer game discs; interactive multimedia computer game program; downloadable ring tones, … multimedia software recorded on CD-ROM featuring fictional characters and computer games; pre-recorded DVD’s, video tapes, laser discs featuring movies about fictional characters, and pre-recorded compact discs featuring music; motion picture films on fictional characters…
Futuremark disregarded the cries of hapless 13-year-olds everywhere as their free speech was censored. Luckily, tears make great lube, otherwise this could have turned out much worse for everyone involved.
All things aside, I’m pretty sure this will never, ever happen.

pwned and pwnage is dumb anyway, trademarking the word would only effect the CS community.
