Nintendo’s E3 press conference round up

Today at Nintendo’s E3 press conference, surprisingly little was discussed. Nintendo mostly announced DS titles. First off Guitar Hero Decades was announced. The only detail described was that it will support song sharing.

Also announced on the DS front was Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. GTA:CW is being built on a whole new engine designed by Rockstar Games. The game will feature a modern-day Liberty City (ala GTA 4). Too bad that is about it when it comes to details.

On the Wii side of things, Nintendo announced Animal Crossing: City Folk. Much like the previous titles, the game revolves around a world on a 24 hour clock. Animal Crossing: City Folk will support Wii Speak.

What is Wii Speak? Well, Nintendo revealed today a microphone and speaker combo, that rests on the sensor bar. Dubbed Wii Speak, it will allow for voice chat in certain games and Wii Channels.

Sony’s E3 press conference round up

Today at Sony’s E3 press conference, they announced some pretty cool stuff. First off, they announced a $400 80GB PS3 will be released. The “Core Pack” will feature an 80GB PS3 with “the same functionality of the 40 GB… with twice the storage.” Unfortunately for me, I was an idiot and picked up a 40GB yesterday for $400. In case any of you care, my PSN name is Yuenanimous.

At the press conference, Sony also announced God of War III. Unfortunately that is about all that was said.

Sony also stated that they have partnered up with several movie studios to bring PS3 users video rentals. The best part is, the service will be available tonight. It will cost $15 to purchase a movie, $6 to rent an HD one, and $4 to rent a standard movie. The rented movies can be transferred to a PSP with a USB cable.

Lastly, Sony announced their Greatest Hits line for the PS3. The games included are: Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Call of Duty 3, Fight Night and Need For Speed: Carbon. These will only cost you $30. Not a bad deal. I intend on picking up Warhawk as soon as the prices drop. Too bad there was no mention as to when that is happening.

GGL Warhawk spotlight: David More

GGL’s newest admin, Owens, came up with the concept of spotlight players for our ongoing Warhawk competition, and I am more than willing to oblige. Our player spotlight exists to recognize the achievements and sportsmanship of competitors in the GGL community, and show them some love. First up: David More, also known as SuperGayParade (hmm…).

As the sole leader of Blighted Touch, More scheduled all of the team’s matches to date, steering them to a 34-7 record in the ladder phase of the tournament. This unsung hero of Warhawk is there for teams other than his own, as well, assisting the community whenever possible through our forums.

More and Blighted Touch are set to face off against shadow battalion, while ARMED^ASSASSINS await the winner of the battle. Hats off and good luck to David More!

E3 2008: Fallout 3 trailer

Skip the first half of this Fallout 3 trailer from Bethesda, but be sure to watch the last half’s combat. Sure, it’s not your father’s Fallout, but unlike war, games do change.

Championship Gaming Series : World quarterfinals begin

Berlin Allianz vs. Sydney Underground

Berlin’s player Liefje opened the night with a decisive 5-1 victory over Sydney’s Eileen in Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4) female. The first FIFA 08 match of the evening followed this victory. Both players were tied, 1-1, at the end of the first half. Berlin’s Manyna scored his final point in the second. Despite his best efforts, Sydney’s Haroutig10 could not tie the game and as a result Manyna gave Berlin another win, 2-1.

With the score at 7-2 in Berlin’s favor, Sydney could not afford to lose badly in any of the remaining games. Unfortunately for Sydney, its player Berzerk experienced a sobering 0-5 loss to Berlin’s THE_TACTICAL in DOA4 male. Sydney’s bad luck continued with Forza 2. The Berlin racing team showed why they won the individual title on last Saturday by beating Sydney, 5-2.

Berlin now led by a dramatic 17-4 lead. The only hope Sydney had of winning was the long-shot chance that it could pull off a near perfect showing in Counter-Strike: Source (CS:S). Berlin dashed these hopes after beating Sydney in the first half, 5-4. Sydney performed better in the second half as the counter-terrorists and won the CS:S game by a narrow 10-9 margin. This was, however, a bittersweet victory for Sydney for the franchise had lost to Berlin, 26-14. Berlin now goes on to compete in the semi-finals.

Franchise DOA4 Male DOA4 Female FIFA 08 Forza 2 CS:S Overall
Berlin Allianz 5 5 2 5 9 26
Sydney Underground 0 1 1 2 10 14
