Last Monday marked the end of the second season of the Championship Gaming Series (CGS). The season concluded with the climatic World Final match between the San Francisco Optx and Birmingham Salvo. The Salvo won the match, making the British team the league’s first international champions. With the season finished, GGL is here to take a look back at the 2008 competition and provide a possible glimpse into what 2009 may hold for the CGS.
The Competition
This year’s competition was certainly more intense than that of season one. An influx of new talent combined with the improved performance of many season one vets resulted in matches whose outcome Nostradamus would be hard-pressed to predict. There were fewer players who absolutely dominated their respective fields. Returning players often faced tougher battles. Perhaps the best example is San Francisco’s Dead or Alive 4 (DOA4) female player Vanessa, who experienced her first two regulation losses ever this season to Dallas’s new fighter, Phoenix. Likewise, Carolina Core’s DOA4 male player OffbeatNinja, who went nearly undefeated in 2007, stumbled a bit at the start of season two. OffbeatNinja’s missteps was one of the factors that allowed Dallas’s Master to rise up and dominate much of the DOA4 male competition. Read more »
Today EA DICE announced the first piece of DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company. Arriving this Thursday, Aug 7, on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a new game mode is being introduced. Dubbed Conquest, the new game mode will be familiar to anyone who has played the other Battlefield games.
For those of you who aren’t so well versed in your Battlefield history; Conquest has “two opposing teams against each other in a race to deplete the other team’s tickets. Killing an enemy takes off one ticket, while capturing and holding certain objectives can be a major drain on the opposition.”
Sounds like a good deal to me. Free DLC is always welcome in the Yue home.

Today Sony announced that the episodic survival horror title, Siren: Blood Curse, will be release in stores on Blu-ray. Originally the twelve episodes were only to be released on the PlayStation Network. After seeing that all twelve episodes would take up 40GB of hard drive space, Sony came to their senses.
The Blu-ray version is said to come with “bonus bits and bobs to make the boxed copy more alluring.” Siren: Blood Curse is slated to hit stores this fall; and what better time for a game that “takes place in a spooky Japanese seaside village. Nosey American reporters decide to check the place out and soon find themselves up to their lenses in an ancient curse which turns the inhabitants into zombies.”
