Today EA announced that their second venture into a Command & Conquer first-person shooter, Tiberium, has been canceled. Apparently, EA thought that the game didn’t meet quality standards.
According to Mike Verdu, head of EA LA: “The game had fundamental design challenges from the start. We fought to correct the issues, but we were not successful; the game just isn’t coming together well enough to meet our own quality expectations as well as those of our consumers. Unfortunately, this action will result in several individuals on the team being released. We will make every effort to place affected individuals on projects within the studio–and where that isn’t possible, to connect them with opportunities in other teams at EA.”
If you were to ask me, I’d say something fishy is going on. EA has never had a problem releasing games that were a little low on the quality standards. What I think happened was that the stock market plummeted and EA has to make cuts. Either way C&C fans are just going to have to make do with Red Alert 3.

Today Harmonix sent out a press release detailing their newest endeavor, Rock Band: AC/DC Live. Arriving November 2 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PS2, (the Wii gets it Nov 16) Rock Band: AC/DC Live brings 18 live tracks. The game will cost you $39.98 for current generation systems ($29.98 on the PS2) and will act as a standalone expansion. Also, the game will only be available at Wal-Mart.
Personally this news doesn’t really do it for me. Who in their right mind would pay $40 for 18 songs. I guess this is only for the most hardcore of AC/DC fans.

The PC gaming market hasn’t been doing too well. Consoles has been winning exclusives due to the rampant piracy of PC games. This is why Gears of War 2 won’t be arriving on PC.
According to Cliff Bleszinski, of Epic Games: “The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know [BitTorrent] to know all the elements so they can pirate software. Therefore, high-end videogames are suffering very much on the PC.”
As primarily a PC gamer, this really troubles me. It’s a shame that developers are leaving, what I believe is, the best gaming platform due to piracy. This is my plea to pirates everywhere. If you are going to pirate a game, whatever; I can’t condone it. Just make sure you buy the games you enjoy. It’s only fair.

Ever since Rock Band first appeared on the Wii there has been speculation about downloadable content and online play. While the first Rock Band failed to deliver, Rock Band 2, on the other hand gets the job done. According to USA Today: “While unannounced, MTV Games has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Wii version of ‘Rock Band 2′ will offer the same online functionality — i.e. song downloads and Internet multiplayer modes — as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 versions. The PS2 version, however, will not include online connectivity.”
Sounds like the Wii might finally be able to match the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in the online sphere. Does this make the Wii more of a “hardcore” system, or is it just more padding on a kids toy? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment.
Rock Band 2 for the Wii is currently scheduled to hit stores on Nov 18. It will retail for $49.99.

Yesterday I wrote about the ridiculously expensive Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition. You know, the one that costs $150. These ultra high priced limited editions seem to be all the rage. Today EA announced that they are having a similar deal for their upcoming parcour inspired action game Mirror’s Edge.
Instead of being packed with all sorts of useless swag, EA decided to go with quality of a product instead of quantity. For $130 you get the Xbox 360 version of the game and a Mirror’s Edge themed Timbuk2 messenger bag, modeled after the one Faith (the hero of Mirror’s Edge) has. Pretty neat. The Limited Edition can only be ordered from the EA store, here.
There is a lot of buzz going around about Valve’s latest endeavor, Left 4 Dead. I mean who wouldn’t want to play a co-op game set in a zombie apocalypse. Well in order to play the game, you got to have to hardware necessary, and it just so happens that Valve’s Doug Lombardi dropped the official system requirements today. What’s it going to take to fight off the living dead? For starters:
• OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
• CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
• RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
• DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive
• HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space
• VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
• SOUND: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card
Even if you have to buy a new computer, I’d say it’s worth it. After seeing trailers and gameplay videos, I’m sold. It also doesn’t help that I am hopelessly in love with zombies and the on coming Apocalypse.

Dead Space has been getting a lot of buzz these days; it seems like EA really has high hopes for it. They have been promoting the hell out of it, going to far as to release comic books and animated shorts. With all this stellar promotion, it comes as no surprise that EA is planning on releasing an Ultra Limited Edition of Dead Space for the Xbox 360.
What makes it so Ultra? Well first off, the price. It will cost you $150. What do you get for all that money? Well the list goes something like:
* The Dead Space game
* Special Ultra Limited Edition packaging
* Dead Space Downfall Animated Movie (DVD)
* Bonus content DVD
* Exclusive lithograph art
* 97-pg Dead Space art book written and illustrated by the development team
* 160-pg Graphic novel
* Ishimura crew patch
Is that really worth $150? Personally, I don’t think so. But who knows, I’m sure there are people out there who have money and like sci-fi horror swag more than I do.

It is hard to believe that gamers got their first taste of Medal of Honor ten years ago. In honor of this classic franchise’s tenth birthday, EA is releasing a Special Edition boxed-set containing the 5 PC games (Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Medal of Honor Spearhead, Medal of Honor Breakthrough, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault Director’s Edition, and Medal of Honor Airborne.)
Bundled into the boxed-set are a soundtrack, strategy guides, a DVD containing documentaries along with interviews with actual WWII veterans. The best part is that the five games plus all the swag is only $39. Not a bad deal if you ask me. The boxed-set it out now in the US.
