Burnout Paradise sells 20k though PlayStation Store

Yesterday Electronic Arts announced that Burnout Paradise was downloaded over 20,000 times in the first three weeks of its PlayStation Store launch. In light of this news, it comes as no surprise that EA is investing $150 million in digital distribution.

Burnout Paradise goes for $30 a download, and thanks to some basic algebra, that means EA pulled in over $600,000. Not too shabby considering that this is only downloaded copies. Hopefully EA will continue to release triple-A titles both in stores and online.

Mercenaries 3 on the way

EA CEO John Riticello today promised that there will be a Mercenaries 3, and said: “…if I have anything to do with it, there will be a Mercenaries 10.”

At least we know EA is committed to not milk the franchise for all it’s worth. After all, EA’s most recent policy is to work on original IP games instead of licensed titles or endless sequels.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has already sold 1.9 million copies worldwide, so a sequel is definitely justified, from a business perspective. I’m just not sure I can get behind the other six games in the series.

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena saved

Another former Sierra game orphaned by the Activision Blizzard and Vivendi merger has found a new home. Originally developed as a remake of Escape from Butcher Bay, Dark Athena was owned by Activision Blizzard which declined to pick up the project when merging with Vivendi Games this summer. Now Atari has bought the publishing and all licensing rights for Riddick from

New Left 4 Dead TV ad

With Halloween a few hours away, it just seems right that I post a news item about Left 4 Dead. Today Valve and EA released the a TV ad for Left 4 Dead, featuring funky music, guns and lots of zombies. Valve and EA are really pushing advertisements for this game. Reports say that the two companies spent a total of $10 million on advertising just for Left 4 Dead.

If you ask me it’s money well spent. While in class today, I over heard two guys, who didn’t looks anything like gamers, talking about games they are anticipating. On that list was Left 4 Dead. Valve and EA, keep up the good work.

Next Elder Scrolls game to be completed in 2010

Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, Bethesda’s publishing executive, Paul Oughton, hinted at a potential 2010 release for the next iteration in the widely popular Elder Scrolls franchise. Paul Oughton explained the publishing plans that Bethesda has set for the future, and how the company is not contemplating working on titles for Nintendo consoles: At the moment we’ve got Fallout 3 for this year and potentially there’s a new Elder Scrolls title in 2010. At the moment we’re not that interested in …

Mirror’s Edge demo arrives this week

There is no doubt that Mirror’s Edge is one of the most anticipated games of this year. It offers a fresh look on the first-person shooter genre. Unfortunately, whenever there is a new take on something, people are going to be hesitant to throw down money on it. That is why EA is releasing a demo for Mirror’s Edge.

Arriving tomorrow, Oct. 30, on the PlayStation Network and then Xbox Live Marketplace the day after, Oct. 31, the demo will feature “the prologue of the game, a tutorial and a segment of the single-player story mode.”

Sounds great to me. Hopefully tomorrow i can pry myself away from Fallout 3 long enough to download the demo.

Unlock all songs code for Guitar Hero World Tour

Yesterday the latest installment of the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero World Tour, arrived in stores. If you guys are anything like me, you rushed out and picked up a copy as soon as the stores opened. Much to my dismay, the one song I wanted to play happened to be at the very end of the track list. Am I going to waste the rest of my day playing a bunch of crappy songs just to get to the one track I want? Of course not. All you have to do to unlock all the songs in Guitar Hero World Tour is enter this code in the “Cheats” section under the “Options” menu: Blue, Blue, Red, Green, Green, Blue, Blue, Yellow.

Tah dah! Every song is unlocked. Now go forth and rock.

GGL’s SCIV tournament: Bracket 3 down to elite eight

Two brackets are progressing simultaneously in GGL’s Soulcalibur IV Xbox 360 tournament, with bracket 2 at the sweet sixteen level and bracket three at the round of elite eight. Black Mamba has already won the first bracket.

Let’s have a look at the third and final bracket matchups!

#50 misato vs. #76 ScorpionXIII

misato already made it to the sweet 16 in bracket 2, but is trying his luck in bracket 3 as well. ScorpionXIII, meanwhile, got booted out in the second round of bracket 2. One of these guys is going down; it’s just a matter of who is hungrier.

#4 alphr3do vs. #41 Kid. D. Zaster

Neither one of these players were in the second bracket, but since both have made it this far, I’d say a coin toss is in order.

#3 Akazukin Cha Cha vs. #22 EscapingJail

EJ just knocked off Azn Fury 85 in the second bracket; can he get his second wind?

#58 OffBeatNinja vs. provost_

I’m picking OffBeat (the resident pro gamer in this matchup), but if he doesn’t show up, provost_ could very well take it home.

Good luck to all competitors! The winner of this bracket will receive the final trip to Los Angeles to compete on an episode of G4’s X-Play!
