From 1 June, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will …

Battlefield 1943 community challenge unlocks bonus map

EA DICE has today announced a Battlefield 1943 community challenge that, when achieved, will reward players with an additional bonus map called ‘Coral Sea.’ The WWII Coral Sea map will only unlock on each platform when its multiplayer community reaches 43 million kills. Battlefield 1943 packs an unlockable map

Today DICE sent word that Battlefield 1943 will contain four maps, not three; but there is a catch. The company is setting “a worldwide community challenge” to unlock the fourth map, which is a remake of the Battlefield 1942 classic Coral Sea.

In order to unlock Coral Sea, players will have to do a lot of killing. You see, the map only becomes available once there have been 43 million kills in BF1943.

For those of you who didn’t play BF1942, Coral Sea features two opposing aircraft carriers with little islands speckled between them. There is a heavy focus on air to air dog fighting. Personally, I love this map and am so very excited that it is included.

Battlefield 1943 is scheduled to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime in June and will cost $15. The PC version will arrive in Sept. and will feature more in depth gameplay than the consoles.

arkham_asylumToday co-publishers Eidos and Warner Bros. announced that Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum will hit North America on Aug. 25. Europeans will have to wait till Aug. 28 to get their hands on the caped crusader.

Arkham Asylum was originally slated to arrive in June, but Eidos and Warner Bros. felt that the game needed more time. They stated, “This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylum is of the highest quality for gamers.”

From the trailers I’ve watched, I am very excited about this game. Hopefully us gamers will finally get a Batman title that lets us experience the dark knight in all his glory.

Relic reveals Warhammer 40K: Space Marine

Yesterday Relic sent word that it is working on a new console Warhammer 40K game.

Dubbed Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, the new title is an action-focused RPG developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Gamers will control one space marine who, from the looks of the trailer, must fight hoards of Orks with various big electrified weapons.

Relic has stated that players will receive items and upgrades throughout the campaign. Relic also said that there is a big focus on multiplayer.

Personally I think this is awesome. I’m a huge Warhammer 40K fanboy, (I even play the table top game) and the prospects of a Diablo style action RPG set in the 40k universe just gets my heart fluttering. What do you guys think? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Dead Space Extraction hits Sept. 29

Dead Space Extraction

Today EA announced that Dead Space Extraction, the Wii exclusive prequel to Dead Space, will arrive in North American stores on Sept. 29. Europeans can expect it on Oct. 2.

Dead Space Extraction is an on-rails first-person shooter set before the events of Dead Space. It offers multiple paths for gamers to explore, both on their own and with a friend via two-player co-op. Also, Extraction introduces “an important new heroine to the Dead Space universe.”

Hopefully the sci-fi horror of Dead Space will transition smoothly to a FPS on rails. If so, we might have a new House of the Dead, except this time in space.
