Today Funcom announced that the launch date for their fantasy MMORPG “Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures” is being pushed 8 more weeks.
The highly anticipated MMO receives 8 more weeks of development, allowing Funcom to deliver a more polished MMO experience when the game launches on the 20th of May 2008. Despite great feedback on vital aspects like immersion, fun factor and the exciting combat system, the management of Funcom has decided to polish the game even more. Eight weeks of development work is therefore added to stress game systems and polish the game further leading up to launch.
The game was previously delayed from October 2007 to this March.

First, Eidos allegedly got GameSpot’s Editorial Director fired over a negative review. Now Microsoft is allegedly demanding that GamePartisan fire one of their writers, because he’s been having trouble with Microsoft’s customer service.
In brief, UK games writer Ben Paddon moved to the U.S., but Microsoft would not allow him to move his Xbox UK Live account, containing downloads that cost good money. Paddon’s attempts to address the problem got him lied to and hung up upon. Paddon shared his woes on the fora at Penny Arcade, and now Microsoft has asked GamePartisan to let him go in retaliation. Allegedly.

Videogames and films, violent or otherwise, are helping decrease violent crime rates, according to two economists.
Their logic is simple; violent films and videogames appeal to young men with violent propensities. And during the time these violence-prone people spend in the theater or in front of the TV, they are not out committing violent acts.
And this logic is supported by the data, according to Gordon Dahl of UC San Diego and Stefano DellaVigna of UC Berkeley. Read more »

December 23rd, the day before Christmas Eve, is the day that the Cyberathlete Professional League said farewell to us all. Even the results were disappointing; unknown American clan x3o was the champion. The locale, the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, shrouded in wintry cold, lent to a scene that was depressing for gamers.
CPL Winter, a famous event that once attracted almost every videogame player’s heart, became disappointing E-Sports banquet but without its original flavor. Angel Munoz, the founder of CPL, once a high-spirited, vigorous and smart businessman, has now reaped as he has sown. He abandoned both players and the public; once believing that he had the key to the e-sports market, he is now abandoned by that market. Without the G7 teams, formerly attractive competitions lost their glamour as well as their fans. If he continues to lose his way, the CPL brand will be totally forgotten. Read more »
We reported last week on the rumor that Redmond would offer some kind of restitution to Xbox Live gamers for recent problems with the online service. And, as always, we were right.
Via Reuters:
Microsoft Corp. said on Thursday it will offer a free downloadable video game to users of its Xbox online gaming service after the network was plagued with connection troubles over the holidays.
Xbox Live General Manager Mark Whitten said the problems stemmed from a “massive increase” in new users of the service over the holiday season, when sales of video game hardware and software surge.
“While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance,” Whitten said in a statement.
Whitten said all Xbox Live members around the world would be able to freely download one game over the service. Games sold on Xbox Live typically cost from $5 to $20, and Whitten said Microsoft would give details of the offer in the coming weeks.
