Alpha Protocol pushed back to “Spring 2010″

Today Sega announced that the spy based RPG Alpha Protocol has been delayed to 2010. This news is somewhat ironic considering today is Alpha Protocol’s former release date.

The official word came via Alpha Protocol’s official site, which has the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions all listed for a “Spring 2010″ release.

Unfortunately these are all the details available right now. As more info arrives, you can be sure I’ll post it here on The Wire.

Release Roundup: Oct 4

This week’s Release Roundup brings out the inner baller in each of us. That’s because NBA Live 10 and NBA 2K10 both hit this week.

NBA Live 10 features more detailed animations, more detailed audiences, a new training facility called “The Hanger,” new controls to improve passing and shooting, and a new and improved Dynamic DNA.

NBA 2K10 is the first PSP and Wii release of the NBA 2K series. The game features:

  • NBA Today - Real world matchups, news and stats are automatically streamed right into the game.
  • My Player Mode - Players can create their own basketball player and guide him through his career. Starting as a drafted or undrafted rookie in the Summer Circuit, players will have to work their way up into an NBA team’s training camp, or in the D-League.
  • Signature Play - New signature player styles, tendencies, dribble packages, dunk packages, and facial expressions.
  • Deeper Association - The Association now incorporates the NBA Development League, the ability to control all 30 NBA teams at once, restricted free agency, real-time practice, an all-new player progression system, and a host of other enhancements.
  • Shut Down D - Shut down teams with new defensive controls that allow you to shadow your opponent’s every move, deny position off-ball, and even select how you want to contest shots.

Exor Studios announces Zombie Driver

Today Exor Studios announced a new open-world driving game for the PC where players are tasked with running down and gunning down zombies.

The game, dubbed Zombie Driver, has a look similar to the original Grand Theft Auto. Players will be able to strap on various weapons, running the gamut from miniguns to rocket launchers, to their car as they drive around a city completing missions for money. The cash you earn from missions can be spent on new car upgrades.

Zombie Drive will feature seventeen missions full of bonus objectives and subquests.

The downloadable title is slated to arrive on the PC this Nov. As of right now no price has been announced.

Zeno Clash headed to XBLA spring 2010

zeno_clashToday publisher Atlus announced that a “vastly enhanced and much improved” version of the indie first-person brawler Zeno Clash will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade under the moniker Zeno Clash Ultimate Edition.

Being heralded as the “definitive version” of Zeno Clash, the Ultimate Edition promises to add co-op to the Tower Challenge mode as well as “New modes, new features and added content.” According to developer ACE, there will be “a series of improvements based on fan feedback.”

For those of you who missed out on Zeno Clash, the game features a unique blend of FPS and fighting game mechanics. Players are tossed into a unique fantasy world where you are forced to make due with unconventional weapons such as: skull-bombs and bone-clubs.

At this time, no official price has been announced. We do know, that Zeno Clash Ultimate Edition is slated to arrive spring 2010.

New Battlefield: Bad Comapny 2 trailer shows “Battlefield Moments”

Today developer EA DICE released a new trailer for the upcoming FPS Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Focusing on “Battlefield Moments,” the new trailer offers a solid minute of unedited gameplay.

Slated to arrive on March 2, 2010 on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, BF:BC2 is a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company. Gamers will be pleased to know that one of the main features in BF:BC2 is an updated destruction engine. Now you can destroy whole buildings, rather than just walls like in BF:BC.

Resident Evil 5 Director’s Cut detailed

Resident evil 5A week ago Capcom announced that it is hard at work making a Director’s Cut of Resident Evil 5. Today the company released some new details as to what will be included in the new edition.

Developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Resident Evil 5 Director’s Cut will allow gamers to play though Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine’s assault on Ozwell Spencer’s castle, shown at the beginning of the game. Capcom has stated that gamers can expect an extra two hours of gameplay from the new content.

According to Capcom, the new content is “too large to be offered as a download.” However, RE5DC producer Jun Takeuchi has stated in the past that Capcom “would not rule out being able to play the new episode between the two versions [original and re-release].”

As of right now there has been no official announcement pertaining to price or release date. As soon as there is you can be sure I’ll post it here on The Wire.

Microsoft reveals two new Xbox 360 holiday bundles

Today Microsoft revealed two new Xbox 360 bundles for the holiday season.

The first bundle, dubbed The Xbox 360 Elite Holiday Bundle, comes with with two games, the cute brawler LEGO Batman and high-flying offroad racer Pure, as well as the physical console. The bundle will retail for $300.

The other bundle actually doesn’t come with an Xbox 360. Instead, it offers an wireless Xbox 360 controller, and five Xbox Live Arcade titles: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Lumines LIVE!, Bomberman LIVE! and Ms Pac-Man. All this will cost you $60. Not a bad deal considering the wireless controller normally retails for $50.

Super Street Fighter IV announced; hits spring 2010

sfivToday Capcom announced that it will release an improved edition of Street Fighter IV dubbed Super Street Fighter IV.

Bringing eight new characters, online improvements, and balancing tweaks, Super Street Fighter IV will arrive on the PS3 and Xbox 360 spring 2010. So far, the only new characters confirmed are: T. Hawk, Dee Jay, and Juri.

SSFIV will be released on a stand-alone retail disc. Before you get all upset, Capcom has stated that the game will not be sold at the full $60 price. Also, gamers who own Street Fighter IV will receive some kind of “bonus” that can be used in SSFIV.

PixelJunk Monster Deluxe hits the PSN this Thursday

Today Sony announced that the beloved tower defense title PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe will arrive on the Playstation Network this Thursday. In celebration of this even, Sony has released a new trailer for the game.

What makes this edition so “Deluxe”? Well according to Sony, the game will come will all the original content in PixelJunk Monsters, plus the Encore add-on pack that adds 15 additional levels. There will also be new levels, enemies, and towers exclusive to the PSP.

Sounds great to me. I played the hell out of PixelJunk Monsters on my PS3. Once I get it on my PSP, the long bus rides to work will be much easier.

Release Roundup: Sept. 27

dead_space_extractionThis week’s Release Roundup has a little something for everyone.

If you are a fan of console hack and slash titles, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 hits the PS3 this week. For those of you who don’t know, Sigma 2 is a redefined version of the Xbox 360 exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2. Sigma 2 adds two new playable characters: Ayane and Momiji. The game also features new enemies, Trophy support and a new online co-op mode.

Also arriving this week is the on-rails shooter Dead Space: Extraction. Serving as a prequel to Dead Space, Extraction gives gamers a “guided first person experience.” Players will have to fend off Necromorphs while solving puzzles with the Wii Remote. Extraction also supports drop in/drop out co-op.

New Dead Rising 2 details emerge

Yesterday at TGS, Capcom unveiled a whole slew of new information about the upcoming zombie-tastic gore fest, Dead Rising 2.

First off, Dead Rising 2 will offer plenty of options when it comes to weapons. Everything from knives and chairs to wheelchair tanks and chainsaw halberds will be at your disposal. You can even use a stuffed swordfish to fend off the undead horde.

Most of the other details pertained to the game’s multiplayer component. Dead Rising 2 will feature “A series of multiplayer challenges for up to four players via online play.” These challenges include “jumping into giant hamster balls and mowing down the undead; seeing who can place the most drill buckets on zombies’ heads,” and “taking to the arena on a motorbike with chainsaws for handlebars.”

Dead Rising 2 will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime before March 31, 2010.

Wii get a price cut in North America

nintendo_wii_1Late last night Nintendo announced that stating this Sunday, the Wii will be $50 cheaper in North America. That means come Sept. 27 you can snag the motion-controlled console for $199.

This news really shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise. Over the last few weeks numerous leaked documents helped fueled rumors of a price drop.

Just last month, both Microsoft and Sony announced price cuts for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Many are questioning whether Nintendo had planned this price cut long ago, or is the company just trying to follow suit. Let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.
