For years now, many have complained that the main reason more people aren’t playing videogames is that it is not marketed toward them. While this may, in fact, be partially true there are also other factors that go into why our culture reacts to the gaming pastime as it does.

In your rush to join the daily grind, you run out of the house after throwing on a t-shirt, jeans and a baseball cap to cover your bed-head and dark-circled eyes.
As you unlock your car with your keys clinging to a Nintendo lanyard, you realize you are wearing a Street Fighter shirt, a Mario baseball cap, and are toting a backpack blanketed in various buttons from your favorite videogame franchises. Adding icing to the cake, before you can decide if it’s worth changing clothes, your thoughts are […]

After a period of uncertainty, hand-wringing, and general malaise, Bungie today confirmed that Halo 3 will have four player online co-op.
The game design issues concerning four Master Chiefs running around won’t deter the company from including online co-op after all.
An update is expected on the Bungie website later today.

With QuakeCon right around the corner, id Software’s already started whispering about its new Tech 5 title.
Speaking to Shacknews, id creative director Kevin Cloud confirmed that the new title is a fast action game, but gamers may be surprised about the gameplay.
“It’s not Doom or Wolfenstein or Enemy Territory…We’re still going to be first-person shooters and in-your-face immersive action, but yes it’s not, you know, Doom 3,” said Cloud.
Thank god. This time I won’t have to club zombies with a flashlight because my guns don’t have attached flashlights.
Perhaps they’re planning to take a […]
Console mod guru Ben Heck took apart his Xbox 360 Elite recently and, lo and behold, it has some beefier cooling hardware than the original.
Many speculated that red ring issues and other crashes in the original Xbox 360 were due to heat or defective solder, so let’s hope that these changes help prevent the problems in the future.
Check out the picture:

The plastic heat pipe is the same as before, but the heatsinks got a pretty major upgrade.

Given that gaming magazines have been going downhill for years, it was only a matter of time before someone got smart and figured out that the only reason people buy them anymore is for exclusive demos.
Now, Official Xbox Magazine plans to take those demos and put them on Xbox LIVE for a price of 200 Microsoft Points, or $2.50.
I’d be seething with mock outrage right now except for the fact that if you only want one demo, paying for it with your LIVE account is cheaper, and easier, than buying the magazine plus disc combo. […]

Fable 2 promises a lot. You can fall in love, have kids, fall in love with your dog (but not have kids with it), and also get into some gnarly sword fights. Check out this developer diary from Lionhead Studios showing off how they conceived combat in the game.
While we already found out that EA would be releasing full albums via download for their Guitar Hero killer Rock Band, they’ve been relatively quiet on what albums exactly would be released — besides their first one with The Who’s Who’s Next. According to CVG, Nirvana’s classic Nevermind is set to be the next.
From CVG:
During E3 MTV Games and Harmonix revealed plans to release weekly downloadable content for forthcoming rhythm action/music game Rock Band, and it now appears that will also include Nirvana’s Nevermind. According to reports, the classic rock album will […]
In an interview with CVG, Epic Vice President Mark Rein said that because publishers are so concerned with getting the biggest return out of their gaming investments, that PC gaming will be defined graphically with how things look on the console — basically, if it can’t easily translate to a console, then it won’t sell enough to be viable.

In essence, PC gaming is going to continue to be an afterthought when it comes to game development. Of course, this all makes perfect sense. Why develop a game solely for the PC when that market […]
