I’m back in Los Angeles after a week of the World Cyber Games doing video production for GGL Wire, and still find myself marveling at the event. You may be surprised at what I’m really marveling at, though.
I’m speaking, of course, about the massive amount of disputing, cheating, exploiting and general all-around bitchiness during the WCG 2007 competition. If this was the Olympics of e-Sports, a few of the players and teams would have been stripped of their medals already and disqualified from further competitions. Want me to break it down? Let’s start with StarCraft.
Stork
He might be getting paid big bucks to perform Dark Templar rushes at 300 actions per minute, but Song “Stork” Byung Goo proved he’s no different than a pro boxer paid to take a fall when it comes to the World Cyber Games.
In StarCraft Group F, Korean team member Stork faced off against IP.EX (Russia), Ra (Ukraine), Thuoclao (Vietnam) and Fire (Italy). Those in the know picked Stork to advance in first place easily, but he had a different agenda. Read more »
The sensational winner of the World Cyber Games Warcraft 3 tournament, Olav “Creolophus” Undheim, talks to Wire’s Michal “Carmac” Blicharz right after his epic victory over Xiaofeng “Sky” Li. Enjoy the interview.
GGL Wire isn’t just here in Seattle for the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final to post funny videos of our crew going nuts on planes and buses. Our actual function is to capture every stage match on three separate stages at the event.
With that in mind, here’s a link to the popup player that will let you watch every game we’ve captured so far: GGL Wire’s WCG 2007 Grand Final player
If you don’t prefer to use a popup link, you can head to GGL Wire’s video page to see list upon list of videos.
Yeah, I know, we’re well into day three here at the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final. I just got a chance to break away from the production desk to post these videos though, so you guys can get a glimpse of some of the after-hours action at the player’s village.

We just got this breaking report that StarCraft owner Song “Stork” Byung Goo used a banned bug in his group tiebreaker match against IP.EX. It’s unclear why Stork, the KeSPA’s #1 ranked StarCraft player as of this month, whipped out the exploit, but GGL Wire’s Nick “Tasteless” Plott narrates this shakycam footage of the event and outcome.

I’ve been in Seattle since Tuesday and this is the first chance I got to do anything fun other than eat apple danishes and have intestinal problems, so I jumped at the chance to play g0d-Ms.X in a game of Quake 3 at the Razer booth. Little did I know what was in store for me … or did I?
See what transpired below.
And yes, I did have an excuse ready at the end. See all our WCG 07 footage at the WCG07 video page.
We just got done with a thrilling Counter-Strike 1.6 match between fnatic (Team Sweden) and g3nerationX/MiBR (Team Brazil) here at the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final. Well, it’s the first day of the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Finals, and what better way to start it off than with an apple danish guaranteed to give you diabetes? djWHEAT and Tasteless geek out with Starcraft talk while kam-RA gets his insulin on. Check it.
P.S - I met a blast from the past right after we got off the bus today. It was none other than Joseph “Dy-Syng” Kim, a Canadian ex-Quake 3 player who I used to play with back in 2000-2001. He also happened to be an extremely good player. These days, he’s the head referee for the World Cyber Games. It’s always fun to catch up with old-school deathmatchers and I’ll try to get that elusive beast on camera soon.
We’re at the Qwest Event Center here in Seattle, sitting on a concrete floor, bringing you updates from the World Cyber Games 2007 Grand Final. The GGL Wire crew hooked up with Tom “SeeD” Conerly and Stuart “Django” Ewen last night at our hotel, and will meet up with more broadcasters today to round out the full coverage crew.
Breakfast was … disappointing, to say the least. However, I just saw some pretty badass cars at the Project Gotham Racing 4 area, which made up for it. Check the videos.
