DigitalLife 2007: Battle Mode is the new hotness

While hosting the Guitar Hero 3 tournament here at DigitalLife, the GGL Wire crew was able to test out the Battle Mode in a public exhibition with random players pulled from the crowd. The result? Some of the best Guitar Hero competition you can get. A new feature to the Guitar Hero series, Battle Mode adds the most thought-out use of strategy than any other mode currently found in not only Guitar Hero games of the past, but also the next iteration that hits store shelves on Oct. 28 for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
It took the wannabe guitar gods a try or two to get used to how the power up system worked, but once they had the hang of it, it then became a whole other experience that involved stacking powers and waiting for the right moments to unleash them. Best stacking strat so far: difficulty, double up, and lefty. Do that, and you’re opponent has almost no chance — especially when the initial difficulty level is anything Hard or higher.
Is Battle Mode the future of Guitar Hero’s e-sports chances? The results from our experiment would suggest yes.
