IEF 2007: Sky out in WC3, Bisu vs. sAviOr in SC final?
WEG e-Stars 2007 is not the only major event held in South Korea this weekend. The other one is the International Esports Festival 2007 with top notch StarCraft and Warcraft 3 tournaments. Both are now in their quarterfinals. We already know Sky will not be winning the WC3 competition and we can hope that it will be Bisu and sAviOr playing in the final of the one for SC.
The World Cyber Games champion XiaoFeng “Sky” Li himself has canceled his participation in e-Stars in order to attend IEF 2007. He probably regrets it right now, as he did not make the playoffs, disappointingly finishing third in his group (with Yuwen “Infi” Wang and Dong Moon “GoStop” Kim finishing first and second).
Another top Chinese player, Wei Liang ‘Fly100′ Lu, exited the tournament prematurely too. Those were the two big upsets of IEF 2007.
The tournament is past the group stage and continues in a single elimination format. The match-ups are as follows:
Liwei “xiaOt” Sun (Orc) vs. Seo Woo “ReiGn” Kang (Ud)
Dae Hee “FoV” Cho (Ud) vs. Yuwen “Infi” Wang (Hu)
June “Lyn” Park (Orc) vs. Hongliang “xTiGer” Liu (NE)
Dong Moon “GoStop” Kim (Ud) vs. Duck Man “Soccer” Youn (NE)
Those games will be played on Saturday.
The StarCraft portion of the event is even more interesting, with top Korean and Chinese players making it to the quarterfinals. The Chinese are probably very unlucky since they are all in the same half of the bracket with Ma “sAviOr” Jae Yoon, the world’s number one player.
In the other half sits the young Protoss prodigy, Kim “Bisu” Taek Yong, the only player that has been able to challenge the legendary sAviOr recently. Ranked #2 by KeSPA, Bisu sports a record of three wins and no losses against sAviOr (according to TeamLiquid).
The bracket looks as follows:
Kim “JiMin” Sae Han Sol vs. Choi “iloveoov” Yun Sung
NsP_Blaze vs. Bisu
sAviOr vs. Sha “Pj” Jun Chun
F91 vs. Legend
