SK Gaming wins Kode5 Holland
After the victory at the Kode5 qualifier in the Netherlands and a second place at the Extreme Masters II tournament a week before, SK Gaming’s CS team is finally putting a smile on their fans’ faces.
Last weekend, SK Gaming won a Kode5 qualifier held in Enschede, the Netherlands. Teams like aTTaX and Mousesports from Germany and CMAX.gg from Finland were also in contention for a berth to the finals in China.
SK Gaming with Robert “Robban” Dahlstrom, Abdisamad “SpawN” Mohamed, Krostoffer “Tentpole” Norlund, Dennis “Walle” Wallenberg and Jimmy “Allen” Allen has had a very good tournament. It was the second in a row after the second place in the Los Angeles Extreme Masters II event a week earlier. It appears that SK’s search for the optimal roster might be over.
Throughout 2007, SK had big problems assembling a squad that would live up to the reputation built up by the previous lineups. After failing to land any of the most desired Fnatic players, SK tried lineups with a mix of the old stars with newer players.
A single success in the Samsung Euro Championship was the one result that stood out for SK this year. Everything else was a disappointment and other teams like Fnatic and Ninjas in Pyjamas pipped SK on most fronts.
Until recently, nothing worked. Now it seems like the chemistry in the team is what it should be again. The core of the squad is built on the core of last year’s NiP lineup with SpawN, robban and Walle. SK’s find Allen and Fnatic’s former player Tentpole seem to blend in nicely.
The team has been together for a month and shows promising results. Whether it can pick up the gauntlet and challenge teams like Fnatic is yet to be answered, though.
