Changes coming to L4D’s matchmaking

252px-left4dead_windows_coverYesterday night valve posted an update on the official Left 4 Dead blog. In this post, Valve discussed what changes they plan on making in future updates.

One of the changes involves updating the matchmaking system to accommodate third party campaigns. Once this is updated, “players will be able to find dedicated servers running the campaigns they have installed.” You will also be able to see which of your friends are playing community created campaigns. If you don’t have the user made map, all you have to do is click on your friend name and you will be linked to where you can download the map. Another major change to the match making system will allow team-based Versus mode matching. This will streamline the process of finding another team of four to compete against.

Valve also stated that it is planning on redoing the player matching system. The post says: “Currently the system tries to match people with the same skill level and best pings together. We will be revisiting this system to tweak it based on data we have collected.”

Valve has stated that these changes will go into effect shortly after the Survival Pack DLC is released on April 21.
