PSP Slim & Lite: big in Japan
The PlayStation Portable is the only gaming console selling well in Japan, due to the September 13 release of the PSP Slim & Lite. All other console sales are down, with the Nintendo DS selling 10,000 fewer units this week.
The Final Fantasy-themed unit sold 250,702 units in its first week. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP was released at the same time.
The S&L is 33% lighter and 19% slimmer than the original PSP. It also has a TV output.
The American “Ice Silver” unit hit stores September 6. North American sales figures are not yet available.
