S.T.A.L.K.E.R. MMO in consideration

In a recent Q&A with fans, GSC Game World, the developer of the PC FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, stated that they are considering making an MMO in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. world.

The quote goes: “We do not quite understand what you mean by “online.” If it is the cooperative mode, then no, there will be none. Even at the time of development of the first part of the game we said that a cooperative mode is impossible, since Life Simulation would be different at each computer. Synchronizing it would be practically not doable. If you mean an MMOG, then we are seriously considering it.”

I loved S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and this news is really exciting. For those of you who don’t know, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was an FPS with RPG elements set in a Fallout-esque Chernobyl where you would fight the military, raiders and mutants. It took a little while to get into do to the steep learning curve, but once you did it was really cool. Now, an MMO set in this world would be great. It would be like a first-person Fallout minus the dark humor and future weapons.

You can be sure that we will let you know if this “considering” turns into a “making”.
