Valve quashes Google buyout rumor

Valve’s Doug Lombardi has dropped the hammer on any notion of Google buying Valve. Kotaku reports that the rumored buyout was just that–a rumor.

While there’s no doubt that Google could buy Valve if it wanted to, the company’s focus doesn’t really jibe with Valve’s, even if you take into account the glory of Steam. A publisher like EA is a more likely purchaser, but any such transaction could be followed by a mass-departure of publishers from Steam.

It seems like a no-win situation for any potential buyer. This could be completely overblown, however, as there’s no indication that Valve needs to sell at all.
