If you have been closely following GGL’s Warhawk tournament, you would know that the semifinal matches between Gods Illest, [WAR!], (ONI) and ARMED^ASSASSINS went down this weekend. However, instead of waiting a few days to schedule the finals, the victors, first-seeded [WAR!] and tenth ARMED^ASSASSINS, decided to play their finals match this weekend.

The end result? An upset by ARMED^ASSASSINS to knock off [WAR!] and take the championship!

AA take home 16 Warhawk Limited Edition Statues, as well as the in-game Champion’s Blade reward for their efforts. Who says players don’t play for bragging rights anymore?

All participating teams will take home the GGL Ceremonial Knife in-game reward. Shanks for coming out!

Congrats to AA and all participating teams for their hard-fought battles.

GGL’s Warhawk tournament has come down to the semi-finals! Only four teams are still alive in the bracket phase, with #1 [WAR!] set to take on #4 Gods Illest and #27 (ONI) facing off against #10 ARMED^ASSASSINS.

These four teams have fought long and hard to reach this point in the tournament, so it’s an accomplishment regardless of  who advances from this stage. Good work, guys!

The two matches are set for July 25 at 21:00 ET. Now, it’s up to these four teams to decide the finalists of this exciting competition.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get them.

The countdown to extinction is reaching a fevered pitch in GGL’s Warhawk tournament, as only eight teams remain in the entire tournament.

These tough cookies are the result of a whittling down process that included nearly 100 teams. Let’s meet the survivalists and hear their stories!

#1 seed [WAR!] has rolled through the bracket, true to their seed. They will face off against #9 Lock’N'Load, who undoubtedly face a strong challenge. L’N'L dropped a higher seed, 1FG, to get this far, so an upset isn’t beyond them. Still, we’re talking about the #1 seed. We’ll see if they can make it happen…

#4 God’s Illest will battle #12 Bomb Squad Kittens in a match where it seems they are already anticipating controversy. BSK’s bucket415 is already demanding a referee be present for the match, and he has also unilaterally disallowed video recording of the match because he claims it induces lag. I suppose the admins will have to handle it!  Continued…

Nearly one week has passed since GGL’s Warhawk tournament switched over from ladder to bracket play. While many valiant competitors were cut down in the switchover, 32 amazing teams made it to the bracket.

Now, 10 of 16 matches from the first round are complete, and it’s time to see who is making the cut…

It should surprise no one that #1 seed [WAR!] eliminated #32 Black Brigade. No disrespect to BB, but [WAR!] are first seed for a good reason. However, a large number of upsets took place toward the bottom of the bracket, showing that ladder seeds aren’t the end-all-be-all of skill.

#20 United Gaming Army took out #13 82nd Airborne Assault. Likewise, #27 (ONI) K.O’d #6 APEX and #22 /7 smashed #11 REDBULLS, who were at one point actually leading the ladder.

Last, but certainly not least, #18 shadow battalion upset #15 Wraith Swat Division to advance in the brackets. Aside from these matches, the higher seed won, which isn’t unexpected.

Several matches have yet to take place, as well. BOOM (#5) are set to take on #28 Agents of Kush, and the rumor is that the teams are already anticipating the need for an admin to be present for the match. Bomb Squad Kittens await the SlaPaHo Tribe, Known Outlaws will take on ICU, KRYPTO KINGPINS will battle Strategic Assassins, and ARMED^ASSASSINS will fight Syndicate.

More news as we get it!

One.

Competitors have one day to change their fates in GGL’s Warhawk tournament, as only the top 32 teams will advance to the bracket phase of the competition. In other words, judgement has arrived.

Let’s take a look at who’s making the cut right now!

In 32nd, we see East Coast Killaz holding onto a narrow points lead over Detonators. If the standings don’t change at all, ECK will make it, but will have the unenviable privilege of facing off against [WAR!] in the first round of the bracket. That’s going to be a difficult match.

[NUKE] and Strategic Assassins, meanwhile, have lifted their stock to 27th and 26th, respectively. They will face strong teams in the bracket, but can give them a good fight — both [NUKE] and SA are recent comers to the ladder, and SA sport a 16W streak!

Who’s out? Who’s in? We’ll find out for sure tomorrow, June 29!

Two.

33rd place Agents of Kush have two days to reclaim a top 32 spot in GGL’s Warhawk tournament in order to advance to the bracket phase of the tournament.  34th place Red Dragon face the same dilemma as well. Ditto for NNN and /7.

Contrary to reports of their inactivity, Murder/Own/Destroy have redeemed themselves and snapped the losing streak they were courting earlier this week. They are now in (drum roll) 32nd! And [NUKE] find themselves tied for 30th with Frownie Face–as long as this situation remains, they should both make the bracket. However, anything can happen in the next 48 hours.

Lastly, in a smart move, Strategic Assassins are still trying to climb the ladder, extending their win streak to 13 matches. Whoever comes in 32nd will most likely face off against the powerhouse [WAR!] in the first round of the bracket…which is not going to be a good place to be.

Stay tuned for more news about these highly active ladders in the two days!

Let’s face it: The average vanilla ladder report breaks down maybe the top 10 teams in any given competition with a little bit of speculation as to future positioning, but GGL’s Warhawk competition is a different story.

While the top five teams have settled into a pattern of mutual symbiosis, beating each other into a pulp for points, not much has changed from last week, and [WAR!] still holds the lead.

The best part of this tournament is that teams in the top 30 (and beyond) are still fighting it out, putting together massive win streaks and grinding out matches for the purposes of bragging rights and respect. It’s what online competitive gaming is all about.

In the end, once we switch over to a bracket phase, there can only be one winner. But until then, teams like [NUKE] will continue to zoom up the ladder. [NUKE] has just entered 30th place from around rank 70, leapfrogging some less motivated squads and putting together a 10W streak in the process. Hats off to you guys!

As long as teams like [NUKE] keep it up, the bracket competition will definitely be something to behold.

Ladder play only continues for 6 more days in the Warhawk tournament, with the top 32 teams advancing to the bracket stage. Here are some teams on the border of elimination: Red Dragon and Agents of Kush (tied for 32nd), shadow battalion (34th) and NNN (35th, though they may just be getting a late start). These teams should be going into desperation mode very shortly, which will make for an extremely interesting week.

With that in mind, keep your eyes peeled for more coverage as we go down to the wire in the Warhawk tournament.

Wins over Apex and Krypto Kingpins have allowed [WAR!] to stay on top of GGL’s Warhawk ladder with a 23-1 record and 3320 points. The World Assassinz Regime! now holds a 6W streak.

Despite their winning position, [WAR!]’s victory is far from assured. B O O M and Blighted Touch are still hanging around in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Many of the teams in the top ten have a good shot at first place–if they’re dedicated.

However, something interesting is happening in 13th place. God’s Illest are zooming up with a 16-1 record, 2580 points and a whopping 13W streak. We’ll keep an eye on this team in the upcoming future.

Registration is still open for the Warhawk tournament, but only for 9 more days (it ends June 29). If you want to join, you’ll need to be a GGL member. Register now to begin.

The last few days have seen frenetic action in the GGL Warhawk competition, with [WAR!] succeeding B O O M in first place on the ladder.

Due to the often quirky nature of ladder play, taking a day or two off can lead to losing the top spot. Teams don’t necessarily have to lose to the team that bogarted their spot, which is exactly what happened to B O O M.

Perhaps due to internal discord (a telling message is posted on B O O M’s profile in the bio section) or simply attending to real life matters, B O O M lost to Krypto Kingpins, who subsequently lost to [WAR!] the same night. This convoluted series of events handed [WAR!] the lead.

[WAR!] now hold a 21-1 record, 3120 points and a 4W streak. There’s plenty more competition to be had, so stay tuned for more updates on this popular tournament.

The lead has changed numerous times in the ladder phase of GGL’s Warhawk tournament, and now it has passed to B O O M, who hold an impressive 20-4 record, 3080 points, and an 11W streak.

B O O M take over from last week’s leading team, Blighted Touch, who in turn took over from REDBULLS. Blighted Touch actually find themselves in third place behind [WAR!], who defeated them this weekend. This comes despite BT player SuperGayParade (best name ever?) promising me a better fight from BT. For shame!

Despite falling short, Blighted Touch are only 80 points out of first place, and the ladder is far from over. It runs until 6/29, which means there’s still an opportunity to sign up and get some matches played. Mind you, time is running out, but registration is open for the duration of the ladders.

If you want a piece of the competition, hit this registration link to sign up and get started.

Last week’s Warhawk update saw REDBULLS on top of the heap in the GGL Warhawk tournament, but things have changed since then.

Hungrier opponents feasted on REDBULLS and each other, and now Blighted Touch (17-1, 2660 points, 5W streak) lead the ladder. It’s quite the turnaround, but Blighted Touch is quite the team.

However, as with all ladders, their work isn’t done…and heavy lies the crown. [WAR!] (16-0, 2600, 16W) is only 60 points behind, and aren’t looking to lose any matches at all.

ARMED^ASSASSINS (15-0, 2455, 15W) are also looking strong in third place, while BOOM (can you guys stop using all caps in your names?) are trying to move past 4th with a 13-4 record, 2380 points and a 4W streak.

REDBULLS find themselves at 6th place and sinking. They currently own a 2 game losing streak.

Remember that you can still sign up for this ladder while it’s running until June 29, even though it will be tough to catch the leaders. You will need to be a GGL member to register. Sign up to get started.

GGL’s wildly popular Warhawk tournament is almost a week into the ladder stage, with REDBULLS leading at a 1660 point clip. So what’s the problem?

REDBULLS have a six game losing streak, having lost to Amazonians, PeeBubble (candidates for the best team name ever), Tools of Destruction, Murder/Own/Destroy, KRYPTOKINGPINS/Eternal Emanat and Footballguys.

Worse still, the aforementioned Tools of Destruction (1600, 6-1, 2nd place) and Blighted Touch (1580, 6-0, 3rd place) are bringing up the rear with four and two game win streaks, respectively.

It’s a tough field, and unless REDBULLS pick it up, they could lose first place on the ladder. While it wouldn’t be the end of the world (they can still make it back up), once you allow a couple of teams to leapfrog you, it’s just that much harder to get back on top. Continued…
