Today the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta, on Xbox Live Arcade began. In order to get into the beta, gamers must purchase Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 on Xbox Live Arcade. From the main menu of Commando 3, there should be a option that says “SFII HD Remix Beta.” Once you select that, you will be taken to a blade that asks for confirmation of download. Agree to that and the SFII HD Beta is yours.
What’s in the beta? Well, unfortunately, not much. Players will have the option (or lack thereof) to play as Ryu or Ken. The lack of choice is OK though, the reason for the beta is to stress test the net code for multiplayer. We all know that the reason you decided to participate in the beta was to help out Capcom, not get early access to a highly anticipated game.
Remember when I posted a news item about the Premium Edition of Soul Calibur IV? I promised to revisit it if any new information came out, and today Namco explained in further detail the Premium Edition’s contents.
The Premium Edition comes with a XL T-shirt. The Xbox 360 version’s shirt is white and has Yoda on it. The PS3 version’s is black and has Darth Vader on it. There is also the mysterious “Tournament Kit”, which in all reality is just a card with a tournament tree on it. Also included, is a comic/art book which will explain the events that happened before Soul Calibur IV.
I’ll leave it up to you guys to decide if its worth the $80 price tag. Personally, I think I’ll pass.
Namco Bandi have announced that Soul Calibur IV will be hitting North American stores on July 29. There will be the standard $60 game, as well as an $80 premium edition. What does the premium get you? Not only will you get a metal box, a comic book and a “tournament kit”, but also access to “extra customization content.”
“Tournament kit” and “extra customization content?” That is so vague that I can’t help but be intrigued. You can be sure I’ll post the details on these two elusive selling points one they are released.

The file size gods have smiled upon us, bestowing a non-gimped version of Super Street Fighter II: HD Remix unto Xbox LIVE users.
Previously, well-known game designer Dave Sirlin stated that the Capcom team was running up against the 150MB file size limit on XBLA.
Producer Rey Jimenez said: “I can officially say that the filesize will not be an issue. With great help from the guys at Microsoft, we will be able to offer the same features on both platforms [PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360] to the same quality as each other.”
Capcom has revealed that Xbox Live Gold subscribers that purchase the upcoming XBLA title Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 (800 Microsoft Points) will be given an access key to download the beta of the much-anticipated downloadable title Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix.
This beta will run for approximately 8 weeks. So far this deal is Xbox 360 only, so if you want your Street Fighter fix quit your XBLA hating and go buy some Microsoft Points.
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is slated for a Spring 08 release.
Will we ever see a Blu Ray drive on the Xbox 360? Bully had no QA. Zif Davis has filed for Bankruptcy. Spore is coming to your iPhone! Will we see a Call of Duty MMO, and if so, can it beat WoW? Fire up the UAV, because another Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 co-op pack is now out on Xbox LIVE.
The pack costs 400 Microsoft points ($10) and includes a brand new co-op campaign, as well as nine multiplayer maps (seven of them are revamped classics from the Ghost Recon series).

Valve has already given gamers more than they bargained for last year with The Orange Box. Now they want to increase the value of gamers purchases by supplying free add-on content for their popular online shooter, Team Fortress 2.
Valve’s VP of marketing, Doug Lombardi, went on the record to say that they wish to give gamers as much add-on content for free as possible.
He goes on to explain how Valve views it as an investment in their next product. By providing free content for gamers, Valve is hoping that potential buyers will no longer contemplate purchasing their games, because the consumer will know they will get their value for their dollar. Bravo!
In the end it’s up to the two platform suppliers to make the call. Traditionally in the past add-on content such as maps has always had a price tag strapped to it, at least for a specific period of time. One thing is for sure: it is nice to hear that there are still game companies out there concerned about giving their loyal gamers the best bang for their buck. It’s just another reason why Valve is such a highly respected company in the industry.
Here’s a trailer from Rainbow Six Vegas 2 showing off some of the guns in the game. The tactical shooter hits stores March 21 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
Today Toshiba officially announced the discontinuation of their HD-DVD businesses.
A press release by Toshiba states that “Toshiba will begin to reduce shipments of HD DVD players and recorders to retail channels, aiming for cessation of these businesses by the end of March 2008.”
Also, from the press release, Toshiba will continue to support standard DVD but no Blu-Ray anytime soon.
What does it all mean? Blu-ray wins by knockout, since Toshiba was the chair company of the HD-DVD consortium. All hail the PlayStation 3.
