GGL Wire’s Rob “Khonsu” Boehm tired out his voice over the weekend shoutcasting the conclusion of the 50Cal Unreal Tournament 3 Challenge. The good news is that we have 26 VODs of all the action.
A mix of knowns, unknowns and old-schoolers showed up for the battle. World Cyber Games champion and Championship Gaming Series manager Brian “Destrukt” Flander entered the fight, followed by noted UT/Quake player Chance Lacina. Quake 2/4 owner Mike3d also brandished his skill. In the end, though, you may be surprised who won; see below.
GGL Wire’s Khonsu sends along this UT3 tournament update:
I’ve just finished publishing videos from the first day of the 50 Calibre UT3 tournament. You can view them all on Stage6 right here. Surprisingly, a lot of the former UT3 players such as Dawgpound, Epitaph, and Chance were unable to make it though the single elimination tournament. Their presence has been replaced with lesser known, however, still recognizable names in the UT community such as wesdog, Gebs, and eden.
After the initial single elimination tournament finished, there were still two open slots for Thursday’s double elimination finals.
To fill these two spots there was a best-of-one single elimination bracket constructed out of 16 willing players in 50Cal’s IRC channel. One of these dark horses was the general manager of the Championship Gaming Series’ Chicago Chimera, Brian “Destrukt” Flander, who fought a very exciting match against “Pwnage.” You can check out that specific match here:
