Resident Evil 5 Director’s Cut detailed

Resident evil 5A week ago Capcom announced that it is hard at work making a Director’s Cut of Resident Evil 5. Today the company released some new details as to what will be included in the new edition.

Developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Resident Evil 5 Director’s Cut will allow gamers to play though Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine’s assault on Ozwell Spencer’s castle, shown at the beginning of the game. Capcom has stated that gamers can expect an extra two hours of gameplay from the new content.

According to Capcom, the new content is “too large to be offered as a download.” However, RE5DC producer Jun Takeuchi has stated in the past that Capcom “would not rule out being able to play the new episode between the two versions [original and re-release].”

As of right now there has been no official announcement pertaining to price or release date. As soon as there is you can be sure I’ll post it here on The Wire.

New Dead Rising 2 details emerge

dead-rising-2

Yesterday at TGS, Capcom unveiled a whole slew of new information about the upcoming zombie-tastic gore fest, Dead Rising 2.

First off, Dead Rising 2 will offer plenty of options when it comes to weapons. Everything from knives and chairs to wheelchair tanks and chainsaw halberds will be at your disposal. You can even use a stuffed swordfish to fend off the undead horde.

Most of the other details pertained to the game’s multiplayer component. Dead Rising 2 will feature “A series of multiplayer challenges for up to four players via online play.” These challenges include “jumping into giant hamster balls and mowing down the undead; seeing who can place the most drill buckets on zombies’ heads,” and “taking to the arena on a motorbike with chainsaws for handlebars.”

arkham_asylumWithout a doubt, Batman: Arkham Asylum is a huge success. Gamers everywhere are enthralled with the absolute badassery that comes with taking control of the Dark Knight. Eidos knows this too, which is why the publisher is releasing two batches of DLC over the next two weeks.

Dubbed “Insane Night” and “Prey In The Darkness”, the two pack respectively arrive on Sept. 17 and Sept. 24.  According to SCEE’s Mike Kebby, “Insane Night” will arrive on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for free. No word has arrived on whether or not “Prey In The Darkness” will be free.

As of right now, details are slim as to what in contained in the two DLC packs. What we do know is that they are not repackagings of the pre-order exclusive DLC, “Dem Bones” and “Crime Alley.” As soon as more details arrive, you can be sure that I’ll post them here on The Wire.

Bayonetta pushed back to Jan. 2010

bayonetta-witchSega announced today that Platinum Games’ Bayonetta has been pushed back, in the States, to Jan. 2010. Japanese gamers will still be able to get their hands on the vivacious vixen on Oct. 29.

Fat Princess pushed back to “some point this summer”

fat_princess_logo1Today a Sony representative announced that Titan Studios’ PS3 exclusive, Fat Princess has been pushed back, and now is scheduled to arrive later this summer.

Fat Princess was originally slated to hit the PlayStation Store sometime in June. With next Thursday being the last PS Store update for this month, gamers concluded that Fat Princess must be included in the update. Unfortunately PlayStation Store Team member Mike Kebby wrote on the European PlayStation Blog, “Fat Princess will have a global release date, but I can confirm for you it will not be next week I’m afraid. The game is coming at some point this summer, but there is no confirmed release date at the moment.”

Hopefully “some point this summer” means early July. From what I’ve seen of Fat Princess, I’m pretty excited. The unique look and the twist on classic capture the flag mechanics seems to be the signs of a summer hit.

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf put on hold

The WitcherIt looks like Polish game publisher/developer CD Projekt has fallen on some hard times. Today it announced that its console port of The Witcher, dubbed The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, has been suspended.

According to Widescreen director Olivier Masclef, “The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf has been suspended pending the resolution of financial issues between the different project partners.” He went on to explain that CD Projekt missed “a big payment that we were supposed to receive. After having committed to the project but not being covered financially on it for three months, I [had] no choice.”

Hopefully CD Projekt will get their financial situation sorted out. I was a fan of The Witcher on PC and wholeheartedly believe that its unique blend of action and RPG elements would make it a standout title on consoles.
