New Dead Rising 2 details emerge

dead-rising-2

Yesterday at TGS, Capcom unveiled a whole slew of new information about the upcoming zombie-tastic gore fest, Dead Rising 2.

First off, Dead Rising 2 will offer plenty of options when it comes to weapons. Everything from knives and chairs to wheelchair tanks and chainsaw halberds will be at your disposal. You can even use a stuffed swordfish to fend off the undead horde.

Most of the other details pertained to the game’s multiplayer component. Dead Rising 2 will feature “A series of multiplayer challenges for up to four players via online play.” These challenges include “jumping into giant hamster balls and mowing down the undead; seeing who can place the most drill buckets on zombies’ heads,” and “taking to the arena on a motorbike with chainsaws for handlebars.”

Dead Rising 2 will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime before March 31, 2010.

Release Roundup: July 12

250px-monkeyislandspecialI hate to say it, but this week’s Release Roundup is pretty sparse. The only game that sparks my interest is the remake of The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition.

For those of you who don’t know, The Secret of Monkey Island is a classic adventure game made by LucasArts. The Special Edition features new character art, hand painted environments, a re-mastered score, and full voice acting. If you guys haven’t played Monkey Island before, you might want to pick it up. It’s one of the funniest and well made adventure games.

The games coming out this week are:

Xbox 360

  • NCAA Football 10
  • The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (Xbox Live Arcade) Read more »

LucasArts announces new Monkey Island titles

256px-monkey_islandToday LucasArts announced that the Monkey Island series will return in episodic form with Tales of Monkey Island.

Developed by Telltale Games, Tales of Monkey Island will continue the saga of wanna-be swashbuckler Gutbrush Threepwood. Tales will arrive over the summer in five monthly episodes on the PC and Wii. Publisher LucasArts has yet to announce specific dates or prices.

LucasArts also announced that a remake of Secret of Monkey Island is set to arrive later this summer on the PC and Xbox Live Arcade. The remake will feature new graphics, music and voice acting.

As an old school PC gamer, a majority of my early gaming experience came from LucasArts adventure titles. The Monkey Island series easily tops my list of best adventure titles. Hopefully Telltale will do as good of a job with Tales of Monkey Island as they did the Sam & Max series.

Assassin’s Creed II due “holiday 2009″

assassinscreed2logoToday Ubisoft Montreal announced that Assassin’s Creed II will arrive “holiday 2009.” The medieval sandbox sequel will be released on “all current-generation platforms.”

Assassin’s Creed II has been in development for over two years now. Ubisoft promises that there will be “more variety in missions, surprising and engaging new gameplay elements, diverse weapons and a profound character progression.”

I tried to get into the first Assassin’s Creed, but the repetitive nature of the missions just didn’t captivate me. Hopefully the sequel will come packed with more things to do.

Wii edition of Staff of Kings includes Fate of Atlantis

indiana jones fate of atlantisToday it was revealed, via screen shot, that A2M’s action-adventure title Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings will come with the LucasArts adventure classic Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis as an unlockable.

Rather then try and mess with old school perfection, A2M decided to keep the game in all its 1992 glory. The only difference is that instead of a mouse, gamers will have to utilize the Wii remote.

Unfortunately the unlockable classic is only included with the Wii edition of the game, which hits stores on June 9. The PSP, PS2 and DS versions are also arriving on the 9th.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time trailer arrives

Last week I wrote an article about Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time. Over the weekend Sony and Insomniac released a trailer for their action-adventure platformer.

While the trailer doesn’t show any gameplay footage, it does build up the story a little.  As expected, the titular heroes must save the universe from some unknown bad guy who seeks to exploit tame travel for his/her own gain.

What do you guys think? Does this trailer get you excited for the next chapter of Ratchet & Clank? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time announced

ratchet and clankToday it was announced that Ratchet and Clank will return to the PS3 this fall in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.

While Ratchet and Clank travel though time, the duo will find answers to some of the franchise’s biggest questions. Gamers will discover the origin of the titular characters, as well as their ultimate destinies. The official announcement poses the question, “Do Ratchet and Clank’s destinies lie with each other? Or is it finally time for the universe’s greatest duo to separate for good?”

The only real detail we have about A Crack in Time is that it will use the same engine that was used in Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty. As more details arrive, you can be sure I’ll post them here on the Wire.
