Welcome to the third installment of a nine part set all about the classes of World of Warcraft. Today we’ll be talking about Mages. With Arena PVP debuting in 2007, it’s time to take a look at how you can become a better player. This guide will show you how to get better, what to look out for and what you should be doing in PvP.

Mages: This powerful class is usually the number one dps class out there. With a ton of Area of Effect spells mages are really useful in 3v3 and 5v5. Whether you are Frost or Fire, you’ll be dishing out some serious damage, not to mention crowd controlling to your hearts content.

Let’s take a look at the Mage spells. These are calculated for a level 70 character with no extra gear. Continued…

Welcome to the second installment of a nine part set all about the classes of World of Warcraft. With Arena PVP debuting in 2007, it’s time to take a look at how you can become a better player. This guide will show you how to get better, what to look out for and what you should be doing in PvP.

Druids: Druids make for some of the best healers in arena, and most notably 2v2, because of their instant healing over time spells. Druids can heal on the go and are nearly unstoppable against silences or spell lock strategies.

Let’s take a look at the Druid spells. These are calculated for a level 70 character with no extra gear. Continued…

Yes, this is the old Paladin armor!Welcome to the first installment of a nine part set all about the classes of World of Warcraft. With Arena PVP debuting in 2007, it’s time to take a look at how you can become a better player. This guide will show you how to get better, what to look out for and what you should be doing in PvP.

Paladins: Your primary role is as a healer. I know I’m going to get some hate mail for this but it’s true. Sure, you can go Retribution or Protection but how often do you see a successful Paladin swinging a mace in arena? Not often. With Divine Shield and strong and fast heals, you’re nearly unstoppable.

Let’s take a look at the Paladin spells. These are calculated for a level 70 character with no extra gear.

Main Spells:
Holy Light (840 Mana, Heals 2196 to 2446) - This is your bread and butter “big heal” spell. Even without any gear this will heal for at least 2196, and with talents this can be as fast as a 2 second cast. Use this spell if you see your teammates dying quickly and a Flash heal just won’t cut it. Continued…

Artist's depiction of a young HamchookGGL’s Shea Smith got a chance to catch up with Natye “GG|Hamchook” Hatjas, one of the best World of Warcraft Arena PvP players, who is on his way to Dreamhack now to compete in the ESL Extreme Masters II Global Challenge. Hamchook has a long history of WoW competition, stretching back to Arena season one, and Shea picked his brain on a number of issues.

GGL Wire: Tell us a little bit about your gaming history.

Natye Hatjas: I picked up WoW after deciding that I hated Halo 2, and I’ve been playing WoW since release. Arena was added to the game and I knew I would be playing that for a while, especially with LAN events to attend.

GGL Wire: Prior to arena, did you actively participate in PvE?

Hatjas: I did PvE a good amount prior to the Burning Crusade expansion. I quit after that for PvP arena.

GGL Wire: You received the “Gladiator” title for your accomplishments in the Stormstrike battlegroup arena brackets, landing you a spot in the World of Warcraft Hall of Fame. Did you consider season one high-rated arena a difficult process? Continued…

Scraped. What’s up boys and girls? With World of Warcraft’s popularity having no visible end, but the recent setback in eSports, we’ve decided to sit down with WoW arena veterans and see what their thoughts on the situation, the game, and the potential of WoW.

This week we talk with Scape, Tauren Druid and Undead Warlock of (the guild formerly known as) Ðominion. He chats with us about PvP, PvE, and where he would like to see World of Warcraft go to save some of the players that are becoming frustrated with the path the game is going down.

Hello! Tell us your name and a little about your character, what server you play on, and what you think of your battlegroup.

I play multiple classes; my Druid is Scraped and Warlock is Scape. I started on Archimonde and have migrated to Mug’thol and now to Blackrock. There was not an abundant source of competition on our old battlegroup, which is why we moved. Continued…

Arena Season 3 is almost upon us, and intrepid World of Warcraft players have ferreted out the lion’s share of the new PvP rewards.

Warriors won’t be happy with these new items, as their chest pieces and two handed sword have less hit rating than the previous season’s items. Paladin Retribution items, however, finally get resilience added to them. They don’t look any better, though; I suppose my Paladin is destined to look like a Dungeons & Dragons reject for all of eternity.

Blizzcon 2007: Video coverage by GGL Wire

Today, lead designer Tom Chilton discussed World of Warcraft’s PvP philosophy; and where the game is headed in Battlegrounds, the games’ faction versus faction instances, and in Arena, the free-for-all gladiator-style combat employed in the global Arena Tournament.

There are three types of WoW PvP: Battlegrounds, Arena, and “outdoor world” PvP on PvP servers.

Battlegrounds Philosophy:

  • “PvP should be for everyone, not just the hardcore”
  • “The hardcore should have a place to shine.”
  • “Players should be able to compete in PvP using primarily PvP rewards if they choose.”  This means players should not have to participate in PvE raids to earn the equipment they need to perform well in PvP.
