Sony details PS3’s 2.5 firmware update

Today Sony announced some details for its upcoming PS3 firmware update. While they did not announce a specific release date, Sony has stated that it expects the update to be out by the end of this month.

PlayStation 3’s 2.5 firmware update brings some new features to the online experience. First, the friends list will be more detailed, showing how long friends have been online and how long since they last signed in. Second, the PlayStation Store is getting a face-lift, adding an entry field on the top right of the screen for inputting PSN Card codes. Also coming in the update is support for the official PS3 Bluetooth headset. Another feature in this update will allow you to have your PS3 turn off once downloads are completed. Lastly, The PlayStation Network sign-up application will no longer be web-based.

All in all it sounds like a great update. I just wish that Sony would get working on adding mp3 playback durring all games, like the Xbox 360 has.
