Video on demand from Group B matches of the GOMTV Star Invitational is now available. These matches are not English VODs–the English voiceover seems to have disappeared from the Group B games.

Group B consisted of six games in total, with the Emperor Lim “Boxer” Yo-Hwan returning to action.

Video on demand views from the GSI site count toward Tasteless’ views, and any further employment for him by GOMTV. If you want to support the only truly specialized English StarCraft caster in existence, get to watching. Tasteless is casting every match.

Hit the GSI match page to view all the video on demand from the GSI competition, as well as the full schedule.

The StarCraft GOMTV Star Invitational is underway, with groups A/B completed. Tonight, Group C will play to see who advances, with Group D matches set for tomorrow.

Live stream information and VODs of every match can be found at the GSI homepage.

Also keep in mind that these matches are all being shoutcasted in English by Nick “Tasteless” Plott. GOMTV considers this a test-run for Tasteless, and future employment for him (and English StarCraft enjoyment for us) hinges on his viewership numbers. So, hit the GOMTV GSI video on demand page to view completed games, as well as the match schedule page to see when the next battle begins.

Tasteless is casting every match!

Hit the jump for Group A and B results (spoilers!).

Every event features a group of death where players who should all make it out of group play won’t. Only two players can advance, leaving no room for error. In the GOMTV Star Invitational StarCraft tournament, one slip up–a mis-struck key, a poorly micro’d unit–could be the downfall and an early end to any member of Group B.

Cast of Characters

Name: Jae-Dong Lee
Alias: n.Die_Jaedong
Race: Zerg
Team: Lecaf OZ

Strength: Jaedong’s stock has been rising as of late. Fans believe he will fill sAviOr’s shoes as a Zerg superstar. Jaedong is nicknamed “Legend Killer,” bringing down veteran after veteran consistently. His record stands at an amazing 90-43, a 67.67% win rate. Additionally, his Zerg mirror is heartstopping: 30-9. Against Terran, he stands at 38-16, winning over 70% of the time.

Weakness: They don’t call it the group of death for nothing. He faces a decent Protoss and two players who eat Zergs for breakfast. Continued…

GOMTV announced in January a special invitational league featuring the top names in StarCraft. Legendary veterans like Yo Hwan “SlayerS_Boxer” Lim and Yoon-Yeol “ReD[NaDa]” Lee, as well as new stars like Jae-Dong “n.Die_Jaedong” Lee will fight it out in the event Feb. 17-20.

Possibly the biggest news about this event comes with GOMTV broadcasting the games live over the internet to American audiences, featuring Nick “Tasteless” Plott as one of the English-language commentators. Tasteless is in the running for a new gig, but won’t make it without the help of his dedicated fans. GOMTV has informed him that any further employment opportunities depend on his viewing numbers. That’s where you come in.

A new GOMTV player has been made specifically for international audiences. View the match schedule here and get ready for some hot Tasteless action. VOD views count toward Tasteless’ views as well.

More info, schedule, and streams can be found at gsi.gomtv.com.

Boxer’s autobiography: Chapter 2 translated

The translations continue to filter out of Korea for Crazy As Me, the autobiography of StarCraft megastar Lim “Boxer” Yo Hwan.

Now, a total of two chapters have been completely translated into English. Excerpt:

My first championship prize money was 3 million won. When one thinks about it now, it may not be a large amount, but to me it was more valuable than 30 million or 300 million won. It was a year and six months since I started playing StarCraft and ten months since I graduated from high school. The memories of seeing StarCraft for the first time, when I placed a wall between me and my studies, when I ran away to play when my father came to get me at the PC bang, and when I disappointed my mother as she took me to the exam academy passed me by like a panorama. It was a path that I chose as I gave up college, but this was a priceless victory that compensated the times when I felt hopeless and could not see in front of me. It was also an exhilarating moment that gave me the confidence that I too could become the best.

Read the full translation at the Boxer Biography Blog. More chapters should be incoming any day now.

It isn’t every day that the most popular gamer in the world writes a biography, so imagine our elation when we learned that portions of Lim “Boxer” Yo Hwan’s autobiography Crazy As Me have been translated into English.

The autobiography contains tales of the young StarCraft emperor growing up, with parents who loved him but discouraged him from playing too many videogames. Check an excerpt:

But it was only momentary. I went to the arcades the next day, even after being chastised by my dad. My dad that punished me, sighing in distress of what I might become- I wonder how he felt, when I told him that I would continue playing games even after the age of twenty, those games that I played since I was a child. It’s most certain that my dad must have been disappointed and worried. Maybe that is why I tried harder as a pro gamer; to be a better son, a son that he could be proud of.

Did I become a pro gamer because of the skills that I’ve acquired in the arcades? There are times when I think that I’ve been able to become a progamer because of soccer. One could wonder what the connection is between soccer and games. Soccer requires great amounts of stamina and physical strength. At the time, I was strong enough to run around the field all day and not become exhausted. Soccer is also an aggressive, full body-contact sport; it can be a sport that one would not like very much, if they are not so competitive. Perhaps I was born with an inclination towards sports. At the same time, I’m fortunate to have been born in an era of e-sports.

Several insightful chapters can be read at The Boxer Biography blog, though at times the Korean to English translation needs some help.
