BAGL Call of Duty: WW competition heads to brackets!

After a ladder phase fraught with disputes and bitter defeats, the Big Air Gaming League’s Call of Duty: World at War competition has moved into its bracket portion.

16 teams advanced to the brackets, and cramming matches into the last week of ladder play definitely catapulted a couple of teams to the next level. So far, no matches have been played in the bracket (thanks, Christmas), but here are our matchups:

#1 [W]icktown [K]illas vs. #16 TeaM FeaR

#2 Team cAv vs. #15 American Bad Ass

After taking over the top spot in the ladder, cAv fell to 2nd in the scramble at the end of the ladder phase. Still, 2nd seed isn’t bad, and could work out for them in the end.

#3 3rd_Degree vs. #14 Contrakt Killers

Call of Duty: World at War Search & Destroy map guide

The Call of Duty franchise has been a staple for hardcore gamers everywhere, but despite its popularity, the Call of Duty games tend to have a relatively steep learning curve when it comes to multiplayer. That’s why GGL is releasing this Call of Duty: World at War Search & Destroy guide.

A little about me: I have been a hardcore CoD player since the first one came out way back in 2003 and play tons of shooter games. With this guide I hope to help new players get familiar with map layouts and common camping spots so that they can have an enjoyable time playing Call of Duty: World at War.

Legend:
Red dot O = Offensive side spawn
Red dot D = Defensive side spawn
Green dot A = Bomb site A
Green dot B = Bomb site B
Yellow X = Sniping/camping spot

Before we can even discuss maps and tactics, I feel like I should include some information for first time CoD players. When playing online, you are rewarded for scoring multiple kills without dying. If you get three straight kills you will be rewarded with a recon plane, lasting 30 seconds, which shows enemies on your radar. After 5 straight kills you will have access to an artillery barrage. Lastly, after a seven kill streak, you can unleash a pack of dogs (which can be killed) for one minute.

On to the maps!

Airfield
Size: Large
Vehicles: None

Airfield is a tricky map due to the amount of debris and the wide open area. It is very easy to hide and pick people off, which is why snipers love this map. In order to succeed, it is important to stay out of sight. Stick to the underground tunnels to avoid sniper fire. If you have to work you way though buildings, stay away from the windows.

Site A: When dealing with bomb site A, try and coordinate an attack with two squads. It is much easier to take if you have multiple teams, one hitting it straight on from the north and another group hitting it from the south.

Team cAv takes over first spot in BAGL CoD:WW ladder

With only a few days remaining in ladder play, Team cAv usurped the first spot on the BAGL Call of Duty: World at War ladder from [W]icktown [K]illas.

cAv widened the lead to 360 points, bringing their total record to 17-7, 2620 points and a 1W streak. [w][k], meanwhile, dropped to 12-3, 2260 and a 1L streak.

A.I.D.S, Red Cell and Z-Hour bring up the next three spots, respectively. Z-Hour in particular is making a run at the top with an 8W streak. There’s no telling if they can take over first place in the time remaining, but it should make for an interesting end to the ladder.

BAGL’s ladder finishes Dec. 21, after which the top 16 squads will advance to a bracket phase. Registration is still open for the ladder, and there’s still a shot for a couple of talented squads to make the cut between now and Sunday.

Visit the BAGL ladder and hit “Click here to join ladder” to sign up. You will be prompted to register during the joining process.

BAGL Call of Duty: WW ladder - [W]icktown [K]illas go 10-1

Two weeks into BAGL’s Call of Duty: World at War Xbox 360 ladder, [W]icktown [K]illas are dominating the competition with a 10-1 record, 2020 points and a 10W streak.

They’re obviously taking the competition very seriously, but aren’t out of the woods yet; Team cAv (10-5, 1880, 4W) is within striking distance, while Red Cell (6-4, 1635, 1L) looks to move up from third place.

In fourth, Cryptic Heroes are going to try a run at the top with a 5-0 record.

Remember that signups are open for the duration of the ladder period, so you can still join BAGL and get your game on.

To join, visit the ladder page and hit the “Join ladder” link. You will be prompted to join if you’re not already a member.

Call of Duty: World at War DLC will be untraditional

Treyarch and Activision are already teasing DLC for Call of Duty: World at War, and the word is that it won’t be “what we’ve done traditionally,” in executive producer Daniel Suarez’s words.

Whatever that means is up in the air, but it will be more than just the one map pack the Infinity Ward released for CoD4: Modern Warfare.

“We want to do at least — the hope is — potentially two, maybe three packs out before we’re all said and done,” Suarez told MTV Multiplayer.

Whatever the DLC is, it won’t be recycled from Modern Warfare. Suarez said that isn’t in the cards, which means it will be all-new, and hopefully, awesome. The first announcement should be at the beginning of the new year, so let’s wait and see…

[W]icktown [K]illas leading BAGL Call of Duty: WW ladder

Play has been underway in BAGL’s Call of Duty: World at War Xbox 360 ladder for over a week, and right now, [W]icktown [K]illas sit atop the heap with an 8-1 record and 1820 points.

They’re followed by Red Cell (1395, 4-2) and Team Fear (1300, 3-0). A few other teams are competitive in 5th to 8th place as well, and looking to move up, and a number of teams have 0-3 and 0-4 records.

So far, the most popular map for matches is, without a doubt, Airfield. Upheaval is a distant second, followed by Castle.

Remember that registration for the BAGL CoD: WW Xbox 360 ladder is open for the duration of the ladder, which ends Dec. 21. However, to really be competitive, you will need to join quickly and play some matches!

Visit the BAGL CoD: WW ladder page to get started. You will need to be a GGL member to sign up and will be prompted to register during the ladder joining process.

Michael Phelps is getting a video game? WTF?

Olympic champion and all-around best person in the world (okay, I made that up) Michael Phelps will apparently be starring in his own video game.

The winner of 8 Olympic golds in Beijing revealed that tidbit an interview with 60 Minutes last night. Unfortunately, he didn’t share what the game would be about, so it could end up being a DS title where gamers find out just how many fried egg sandwiches they can eat in one sitting.

Phelps has already been spotted promoting Activision products such as Call of Duty: World at War and Guitar Hero World Tour, so it wouldn’t be a stretch if he was in bed with Activision. We’ll see what the marketing wizards come up with this time.

Thanks to Gaming Target for spotting the 60 Minutes interview.
